Construction is nearing completion on McNeil Refrigeration’s new headquarters at 14070 South 220th Street in the NC Industrial Park North subdivision in Gretna, according to Schemmer, which provided civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical design services for this project. The project design utilized a pre-engineered steel structure for another project and modified it for this project’s requirements. The building consists of 25,000 sq. ft. of shop space and 9,200 sq. ft. of corporate office space. Ronco Construction Company is the general contractor. Completion will occur this fall.

Construction has started on the Old Market Gardens, a pocket park planned for the northeast corner of 13th & Leavenworth Street in the Old Market. The 1.22-acre site is near the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. A small historic building on site will be incorporated into the park. Plans call for gardens, public art, café and a play area.

The central core tower of Mutual of Omaha’s future headquarters has surpassed 245 feet and is starting to make a visible impression on the skyline. Bounded by 14th, 15th, Farnam and Douglas streets, the building will eventually be 800,000 sq. ft., 44 stories and 677 feet tall. Steel beams are going vertical on the southwest corner of Farnam Street & Saddle Creek Road. That’s where constructino is taking place on the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Campus Operations and Research Excellence building. When it’s complete, the 6-story building will have floors dedicated for both administrative and research purposes.

Construction is coming along, and signage is now in place for Total Wine’s future store in the former Bed Bath and Beyond space in The Shoppes at Aksarben southeast of 72nd & Pacific Street. It will be Total Wine’s first Nebraska or Iowa location. The Maryland-based company has 240 stores in 27 states. A tower crane is now in place as the University of Nebraska Medical Center builds a 750-stall parking garage just north of the Catalyst Building on the new campus west of Saddle Creek Road. The City of Omaha will purchase and operate the 7-level parking garage upon completion. UNMC has discussed the possibility of building residence hall rooms alongside or around the new garage but has not yet publicly confirmed the plan.

Construction is underway at a former Metro Credit Union location at 9530 South 71st Plaza, which is northeast of 72nd & Cornhusker Road in Papillion. When the building is complete, it will be shared by a Starbuck’s Coffee shop and an Aspen Dental office.
