Construction Starts on Streetcar Maintenance Facility
Construction has started on the 2-story streetcar vehicle maintenance facility on a small portion of the CHI Health Center’s Parking Lot A. The facility is located next to an existing OPPD substation in the shadow of Interstate 480 bridges. The facility will maintain the six streetcars that will run on the 3.2-mile route connecting The Riverfront, Old Market, downtown, Midtown Crossing, The Blackstone District and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Exterior Construction at Flagship Library Building
Much of the exterior has been installed at the future Omaha Central Library, giving a hint of how the finished product will eventually look. The $150 million flagship library is under construction on the southwest corner of 72nd & Dodge Street. The 3-level, 96,000 sq. ft. building remains on schedule for a 2026 opening. Facebook Data Center Expands to the South
Construction has started on yet another section of the massive Facebook data center in Sarpy County. The original section was completed a couple years ago northwest of Highway 50 & Capehart Road. The second section was built on the northeast corner. Those two data centers are in Papillion. Because the third section was built south of Capehart Road, it’s in Springfield. Now construction has started on more Facebook buildings closer to Fairview Road.
Construction Progress at 48th & Dodge
Crews have framed and enclosed most of the western portion of a large apartment building southeast of 48th & Dodge Street. Wood framing on the eastern portion has not yet started, but the concrete base is already in place. When it’s completed, the 5-story building will have 300 apartments. Westside High School Swimming Pool
The steel frame is in place for Westside High School’s new $34 million privately funded swimming pool. Earlier this year, crews demolished the former, 60-year-old pool building. The new 8-lane, Olympic-style pool will be made of Myrtha, the same material used in Olympic pools. The new pool will have a moveable floor, improved filtration, and a cool down area. Tommy’s Express Carwash Near 204th & Q
Construction has gone vertical on a Tommy’s Express Car Wash location northeast of 204th & Q Street. The construction site is just south of an existing McDonald’s restaurant. Michigan-based Tommy’s has four existing Omaha-area locations. Photo by Nicole Buntgen
Old Scoular Grain Elevator Coming Down
Crews are demolishing the final portion of an old Scoular grain elevator along the east side of Interstate 480 near 28th & Deer Park Boulevard. The site was once occupied by A&R Salvage. A developer had announced a few years ago that it would build “The Intersections,” a $100 million wellness and recreational center. Those plans fell through. The site is now planned to be the future location of Crushin’-IT, a concrete recycling business.

Demolition at 38th & Dodge Makes Way for Apartment Building
Crews are demolishing houses this week on the southwest corner of 38th Avenue & Dodge Street in the Blackstone area. That will make way for Skylark Development’s $22 million, 7-story building with 131-unit apartment building. Two of those levels will be indoor parking.
