Eight local nonprofits are being supported at the College World Series’ Baseball Village as part of “Flying Flags for Charity.” Each day, a different nonprofit is highlighted, allowing the organization to share their mission and connect with baseball fans. The chosen nonprofits are Bags of Fun, League of Angels, Foster Heart and Hope, First Responders Foundation, The Christopher Bremer Foundation, Mosaic, Macy’s Way and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Felius Cat Cafe launched a Memory Cafe program last month for residents from The Heritage at Sterling Ridge. A black cat named Persi visited with residents, offering animal therapy and connection.
As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations this year, inCOMMON Community Development is hosting PickleBrawl: A Pickleball Party for Good on June 27. The all-ages tournament at Midwest Pickleball Club will raise money to support inCOMMON’s mission to stop poverty by strengthening vulnerable neighborhoods and celebrate neighbors, partners, volunteers and supporters. Registration is still open.
The survey for Bike Walk Nebraska’s 2026 Economic & Health Impact of Trails Study is open until June 21st. The first phase of the study facilitated by BWN is exploring the economic impact of multimodal trail use statewide, the impact of trail use on health in Nebraska, and an analysis of funding sources for multimodal trails. All trail users and representatives of organizations that support or benefit from public trails are asked to complete the survey.

Heart Ministry Center is developing a social enterprise, a 24,670 sq. ft., full-service grocery store for north Omaha and the broader Omaha community. The store is being built to meet community needs, provide employment for Fresh Start graduates and neighborhood residents, and generate economic impact in the neighborhood. As a social enterprise, its proceeds will go back to supporting the mission of Heart Ministry Center. HMC is hosting community vision meetings to inform residents about the vision for the store and gather input. The first meeting is scheduled for June 17, and will include a presentation from architecture firm Alley Poyner Macchietto.
No More Empty Pots this summer will launch another season of youth-focused classes and workshops, including summer programming with Nathan Hale Middle School, Field Club Elementary School, the Douglas County Health Department’s Project New Lens program and the Peter Kiewit Foundation’s Summer Fun series.
The program will bring busloads of students from organizations across Omaha to the No More Empty Pots’ Food Hub in north Omaha for immersive educational experiences centered on cooking, nutrition, agriculture, and food systems. The organization just wrapped up a school year serving as an after-school program through Collective for Youth, in which NMEP educators engaged more than 60 elementary and middle school students in culinary labs, nutrition education lessons, gardening activities and food science experiments.
After merging with Children’s Square in the fall of 2025, Child Saving Institute announced plans this week to begin a series of initial capital improvements to the Children’s Square campus in Council Bluffs later this year. Several of the impacted buildings are between 70 and 115 years old. Renovations will focus on improving safety, sustainability and the organization’s ability to serve children and families.
The Set Me Free Project, in partnership with Union Pacific, hosted a Human Trafficking Awareness Event last week. The event educated participants about trafficking prevention and led discussions regarding community action.

Salvation Army Omaha has begun serving free dinnertime meals out of trucks parked at various parks around the metro as part of its Family Meals of Hope program. This is the program’s second summer, with the first serving more than 8,000 meals. Trucks will be serving each weeknight at Miller Park, Benson Park, Hitchcock Park, and the Community Bible Church parking lot.
The latest cohort of the Omaha Municipal Land Bank’s Ambassador Program graduated this week. The program is designed to teach a diverse cohort of potential board applicants and community advocates, provide information and experience regarding the Land Bank’s programs and potential impacts, and connect the Land Bank with community members. The Land Bank is currently accepting applicants for the 2026-27 Ambassador Program.
World Speaks, a nonprofit which offers language classes and works to remove language barriers in Omaha, is hosting Language Access Week June 8 to12. This year, the week will feature a social media education campaign showcasing organizations throughout Omaha that are incorporating language access into their work, a “Let’s Chat about Cancer” presentation in Spanish presented with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a community cooking course offered entirely in Arabic.
The Omaha Children’s Museum celebrated its 50th anniversary last weekend with special celebrations and programming. The museum was first housed in the City/County Connector Building before moving to 18th & St. Mary Avenue. It moved into its current location at 20th & St. Mary’s Avenue in 1989.
