Creighton men’s basketball secured the No. 5 seed in the Big East Tournament after two straight losses by DePaul to end its season, earning the final bye at Madison Square Garden this week. The Bluejays will meet No. 4 seed Seton Hall on Thursday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. in the Big East Tournament Quarterfinals.
Creighton and Seton Hall each completed late-game comebacks to steal a victory against each other this season, splitting the season series 1-1 with a combined score of 124-123. Seton Hall took the first game of the season, 56-54 on January 4, erasing a 16-point lead over the final 15 minutes of the game. On February 7, in Omaha, Nik Graves buried the game-winning three-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to even the season series and pay back the Pirates.
The Big East Tournament begins on Wednesday, March 11, with (8) Butler facing (9) Providence at 3 p.m. Central, followed by (10) Xavier and (11) Marquette at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday’s nightcap will feature (6) DePaul and (11) Georgetown.
The winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal game between Creighton and Seton Hall will advance to Friday’s semifinal airing at 4:30 p.m. on FOX.
