Creighton Baseball Playing in Big East Championships in Cincinnati

May 20, 2026

Creighton baseball is playing in the Big East Championships against top-seeded St. John’s today. Because of weather, first pitch was moved up to 10 a.m. Creighton will attempt to defend its 2025 Big East Tournament Championship against the Red Storm, who took the season series, 2-1, outscoring the Bluejays 26-12.

The four-team field includes top-seeded St. John’s, No. 2 UConn, No. 3 Xavier, No. 4 Creighton, and will begin with Wednesday morning’s matchup between the Bluejays and Red Storm. The winner of that game will face the victor of UConn and Xavier at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, while the losers of each first-round game will meet in an elimination game on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

This year’s field is identical to the 2025 Big East Championships and marks the second time since Big East realignment that the field has repeated. In the last eight seasons, each of the four programs has won two Big East Tournament championships.

Coming into the tournament on a slight skid – the Bluejays are 4-6 in their last 10 games – Creighton will need its top bats to stay hot if it hopes to repeat as Big East champions.

Ben North (.332) and Nate McHugh (.303) will need to ignite the Bluejays’ offense if Creighton hopes to avoid playing in Thursday’s elimination game for the first time in program history.

On the mound, Jack Pineau will lead the way. Pineau carries a 7-2 record and 4.10 ERA in his 14 starts this season and has allowed 65 hits in 74.2 innings.

Four Bluejays earned All-Big East honors on Tuesday, May 19 as the postseason all-conference awards were announced. Nate McHugh (DH), Ben North (SS) and Isaac Wachsmann each earned First Team honors, while Connor Capece (C) earned a Second Team nod from the Big East coaches.

Thursday’s game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and on 1180 AM in Omaha.
