Children’s Behavioral Health Construction Progress
The $110 million Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s Nebraska is now enclosed as construction continues near 85th & West Dodge Road. The 4-story, 107,250 sq. ft. building will have 38 inpatient beds plus an experiential kitchen for youth and families dealing with eating disorders as well as 14,000 sq. ft. for general outpatient therapy and a crisis screening and stabilization assessment hub. Completion is planned for early 2026.
Exterior Construction Progress on Blackstone District Building
Exterior construction work is coming along nicely on the 37 West Farnam building in the Blackstone District. The 9-story, mixed-use building is scheduled to open in the spring. The building includes street-level retail, four levels of a city-owned parking garage and five levels of apartment units. Though the building is not done, the parking garage component is already open to the public. 37 West Farnam is located along the future streetcar route just west of the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel.
Foundation Work Underway on UNMC Residence Hall
Crews have started pouring footings for the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s first student residence hall near 39th & Dewey Avenue. The $66 million, 200,000 sq. ft., 6-story building will accommodate 300 students. Occupancy is scheduled for August 2026.
Combined Restaurant Building at 156th & Spaulding
Williamsburg Pizza and Stories Coffee are coming to the 156th & Maple area. They will share a two-bay building under construction and now mostly enclosed on the northeast corner of 156th & Spaulding Street. Williamsburg Pizza is from New York and opened its first non-New York location in Omaha near 168th & Harrison Street. Locally owned Stories has four current locations in Omaha and Gretna.
Former Charleston’s Converting to Brazilian Steakhouse
Crews are building an addition onto the former Charleston’s restaurant building as it converts into a Brazilian churrasco-style steakhouse. Located at 138th & West Dodge Road, the building will become Terra Gaucha, an upscale Brazilian steakhouse with current locations in Florida and Connecticut.
Mutual Tower Core Passes 24 Stories
Earlier this week, crews raised the forms used to construct the $600 million Mutual of Omaha tower’s central core, also known as a shear tower. Work is now underway on the 25th floor of the core, which will contain elevator shafts. At 677 feet, the 44-story tower will be the tallest in a multi-state region. Though the 800,000 sq. ft. building is not due for completion until 2026, it is already the third-tallest building in Omaha.
Olsson Building Goes Vertical at Heartwood Preserve
Olsson’s future office building at Heartwood Preserve has gone vertical this past week. The 4-story office building will be part of The Row at Heartwood Preserve southwest of 144th & West Dodge Road. Olsson, an engineering and design firm, will house its 300-plus Omaha-area employees in the building when it’s complete in 2026. The building will also have street-level retail space. Additionally, two adjacent buildings — a multi-family residential building and a 4-star hotel — are in the design phase.
Elkhorn Training Camp Under Construction in Gretna
Elkhorn Training Camp is expanding to Gretna. The organization has started building Phase I, a 35,000 sq. ft. indoor training center, which will have 11 batting cages, 10,000 sq. ft. of open turf and a 5,000 sq. ft. performance center for strength and conditioning. The facility is located in the Gretna Landing development northwest of 192nd & Highway 370. Elkhorn Training Camp currently has a 60,000 sq. ft. building at 715 North 210th Street.
