Methodist & Acadia Healthcare Building in Council Bluffs

Construction has now gone vertical and steel beams are in place at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital’s and Acadia Healthcare Company’s behavioral health hospital in Council Bluffs. Located at 3620 South 24th Street, the hospital will be named Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health. Slated to open in 2026, the campus will have 96 inpatient beds – including 24 beds dedicated to serving the mental health needs of children and adolescents – and provide intensive outpatient services. Graham Construction & Engineering is the project’s general contractor, and Stengel Hill Architecture is the project’s architect.

“The Frame” Building in Millwork Commons

Construction has started on The Frame, a $44 million multifamily apartment building on a vacant lot west of the Ashton Building at 13th & Nicholas Street. Plans call for a 5-story, 146-unit building consisting of 55, 2-bedroom units and 94, 1-bedroom units. The ground floor will have a single 10,000 sq. ft. retail bay and 65 covered parking stalls. The building will also have two large decks on the second-floor roof.

It is just one of several construction projects planned or underway in the Millwork Commons district, which is north of Charles Schwab Field. Those projects include the Dizzy Mule, The Millwork Hotel, NOVA apartment building and a city-owned parking garage.

Chipotle Mexican Grill has started constructing a 2,325 sq. ft., free-standing restaurant building in the Southport East development on the southeast corner of Giles Road and Southport Parkway in La Vista. The site is near an existing Hampton Inn and several other quick-serve restaurants. To the east is the CHI Health MultiSport Complex. The west is Cabela’s, Embassy Suites and Costco.

Construction has started on the canopy that will cover future gas pumps at a controversial Mega Saver gas station and convenience store in the former Fuddrucker’s restaurant space at 72nd & Dodge Street. Neighbors had opposed the planned opening. Gas pumps are being installed in the parking lot near an existing Scooter’s Coffee.

Overnight Work Inside Eppley Airfield Terminal

Construction work takes place each night after midnight on Eppley Airfield’s $950 million terminal expansion and modernization project. When it is 100-percent complete in 2028, the terminal will grow from 375,000 sq. ft. to 646,000 sq. ft. and be combined into a single unified concourse with a centralized security screening checkpoint. The number of gates will increase to 22 with two of them capable of handling international flights and connected to a Customs and Border Protection arrivals hall.

KFC Demolition Makes Way for Bank of America

Crews started tearing down a former KFC restaurant this week at 4358 Dodge Street. The old fast-food restaurant will be replaced by a 4,275 sq. ft. Bank of America branch building with two drive-thru ATM lanes. This will be Bank of America’s third location in Omaha; one is located at 13255 West Center Road. The first branch is at 86th & West Dodge Road.
