Nordstrom Rack Opens at Village Pointe

Nordstrom Rack has officially opened its first Nebraska store at Village Pointe in a 30,000 sq. ft. space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond at 255 North 170th Street. The Seattle-based, off-price, department store’s nearest existing locations are in Des Moines, Iowa as well as the Kansas City and Minneapolis areas. – Nicole Buntgen

EPIC for Girls Relocates to College of Saint Mary Campus

EPIC for Girls, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing inequities in sports for girls of color, has relocated to the College of Saint Mary campus near 72nd & Mercy Road. The move allows the organization to use the Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse, enhancing the organization’s ability to support more than 1,900 girls. – Darcie Dingman Willie

Deviled Egg Co. Closing December 1st

Deviled Egg Co. announced it will not renew its lease at 18111 Q Street and has switched to carry-out orders only until its closure on December 1. The company’s other locations in Denison, Tex. and McKinney, Tex., will remain open. Deviled Egg started as a delivery service in 2017 before opening its first brick-and-mortar store in Omaha in 2021. – Nicole Buntgen

Cilantro’s Mexican Bar & Grill Moving to Oakview

Cilantro’s Mexican Bar & Grill plans to close its location at 14440 F Street on October 27th. A replacement location is expected to open by the end of the year at 3309 Oakview Drive, Suite 102. That’s in a small retail building immediately southeast of Oakview Mall.

Lincoln Taekwondo Gym Expands to Omaha

Master Lee’s Taekwondo has opened at 3510 North 167th Circle. That’s just south of a Rocket Car Wash at 168th & West Maple Road. The business, which has an existing location in Lincoln, offers classes for children ages 4 and up as well as adults of all ages.

Wingstop Plans to Open Near 180th & Q

Wingstop will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting for its newest location at 17676 Welch Plaza near Hy-Vee off 180th & Q. The wing franchise has more than 1,600 locations nationwide, including seven in the Omaha area. – Nicole Buntgen

New Manufacturing Plant to Be Constructed in Gretna

Lawson Cryogenic Manufacturing & Repair plans to break ground Thursday on its first manufacturing plant at 15130 South 205th Avenue in Gretna. The site is southeast of Interstate 80 and Highway 31 on the opposite side of the interstate from Nebraska Crossing. The plant will produce cryogenic transport trailers.

Paint-and-Sip Franchise Comes to Omaha

Board & Brush will open its first Nebraska location on October 26th at 6016 Maple Street in Benson. The sip-and-paint franchise describes itself as a creative studio that combines woodworking with Do-It-Yourself projects. – Nicole Buntgen

BBQ Restaurant Swaps Bricks and Mortar for a Truck

Pulled BBQ has closed its restaurant at 11036 Elm Street in Rockbrook Village and is converting to a food-truck business model. The truck will be based at Trucks & Taps southwest of 108th & Q Street.

Taco Bell Under Construction in Coventry Development

Construction is underway for a new Taco Bell in the Coventry development near 204th & Harrison Street, just east of Children’s Hospital and south of ACX Cinema 12+. The fast-food chain operates more than 20 locations in the Greater Omaha area. – Nicole Buntgen

Boutique Store Opening at Countryside Village

Sage Grove Boutique will soon open at 8706 Countryside Plaza off 87th & Pacific. Its temporary location is at 8721 Shamrock Road, next to House of R on the opposite side of the retail strip. The boutique’s goal is to make every shopper feel heard, seen, and comfortable, according to its website. – Nicole Buntgen

Council Bluffs Plans West Side Improvements

The Council Bluffs City Council approved a resolution to initiate bids on the West Broadway Extension Project. The project has been funded by a $3.5 million grant from the Iowa West Foundation. It entails landscaping, irrigation and signage improvement between 35th and 40th streets, roughly the area around the newly constructed I-29-I-480 Interchange and the western entrance to Council Bluffs. – Isaiah Ang

Sports Bar Closes in Millard

Varsity Sports Bar & Roman Coin Pizza is closing its Millard location at 145th & F Street today. Other locations at 96th & Q Street as well as 36th & HIghway 370 will remain open.

4-Story Building Planned for 16th & Locust

A developer plans to build an apartment project at 1614 Locust Street. The vacant lot is about 29,000 sq. ft. and lies just west of Chubb Food grocery store. The 51,000 sq. ft., 4-story building would have an adjacent surface parking lot. The building will have 36 units, including 19 three-bedroom units, with the remaining being a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments. Blackstone District Karaoke Bar Adds West Location

Reno’s Karaoke, a private karaoke bar in Blackstone, will open a second location inside Blue Sky Bar & Patio at 10730 Pacific Street in Regency Landing this winter. Unlike the Blackstone location, which is 21+, the new venue will be open to all ages. – Nicole Buntgen

Mochinut Plans Ribbon Cutting for First Nebraska Store

To celebrate its first store in Nebraska, Mochinut will host a ribbon cutting on November 2nd at 3605 North 147th Street, near Chipotle and First Watch. The shop recently opened and specializes in mochi donuts, a Hawaiian creation that combines American donuts with Japanese mochi. – Nicole Buntgen

Union Pacific Sponsors U.S. Speedskating

Union Pacific Railroad announced a four-year partnership with US Speedskating, the organization dedicated to supporting speed skaters from local clubs to the Olympics. Omaha-based Union Pacific is an official sponsor. The US Speedskating National Team is based in Utah, a state with long historical ties to Union Pacific and home to approximately 1,200 of the company’s employees.

Shared Venue Opens at Rockbrook Village

Corkscrew Wine & Cheese recently opened Alco-Hall, a semi-enclosed shared space between its Rockbrook Village location and Public House, a whiskey bar. The outdoor patio includes a fire pit and swings, open during Corkscrew and Public House business hours. – Nicole Buntgen

Charleston Homes Plans Subdivision at 204th & Ida

Charleston Homes is planning a residential subdivision named Indian Ridge at 204th & Ida Street. According to an Omaha Planning Board application for rezoning, there will be two phases to build out 487 single family lots throughout the 146-acre development. Phase 1 consists of 206 lots with the remaining 281 lots reserved for Phase 2. The subdivision will be north of Indian Creek Golf Club and west of Flanagan Lake. – Isaiah Ang

First Watch Opens 7th Omaha Location

First Watch has opened at 248 North 144th Street in Heartwood Preserve. The Florida-based, breakfast-and-lunch restaurant now has seven Omaha-area locations.

NP Dodge Unveils New Brand

Rush Market Closing Oakview Store

Rush Market is closing its store at Oakview Mall. The non-traditional furniture retailer has occupied the former Younkers department store space since 2019. The retailer has hinted about a new location on its Facebook page but no announcements have been made.

Eppley Passenger Traffic Continues to Rise

As the Omaha Airport Authority moves full speed ahead on Eppley Airfield’s $950 million terminal expansion project, passenger traffic continues to rise. Eppley welcomed 420,432 passengers in September, up 3.4 percent from the same month a year ago. Year-to-date traffic is 3.91 million, which is up 6.4 percent over 2023.

Prehistoric Putt Opens November 1st

Prehistoric Putt plans to open November 1st in the former Nobbies building in Bel Air Plaza northwest of 120th & West Center Road. The space will feature four, 18-hole mini-golf courses with full-scale dinosaurs, an arcade, a virtual reality laser tag arena, party rooms and a kitchen and bar.

Eddie Bauer Closes One Pacific Place Store

Eddie Bauer, the Seattle based outdoor-recreational clothing chain, has closed its store at 10323 Pacific Street in the One Pacific Place center. The Eddie Bauer Outlet store at Nebraska Crossing in Gretna is the only surviving location in the state of Nebraska.

Olsson Breaks Ground on Future Office Building

Olsson, Applied Underwriters and Lanoha Real Estate Company held a ceremonial ground-breaking yesterday for Olsson’s 4-story, office building in The Row at Heartwood Preserve southwest of 144th & West Dodge Road. Olsson, an engineering and design firm, will house its 300-plus Omaha-area employees in the building when it’s complete in 2026. Additionally, two adjacent buildings — a multi-family residential building and a 4-star hotel — are in the design phase.

$2.5 Million Streetscape Project Planned for Blackstone District

U.S. Rep. Don Bacon, Mayor Jean Stothert and leaders of the Blackstone Business Improvement District last week announced the Harney Streetscape Plan, a $2.5 million project to upgrade Harney Street through Midtown. Plans call for wider sidewalks, reduced traffic speed, better traffic signals and a reduction from three lanes of traffic to two. The project received a $2 million Federal Community Funding Project grant and requires a $500,000 local match. The project will start and finish in 2027.

North Omaha Burger Restaurant Permanently Closing

Best Burger is closing its north Omaha location inside the Highlander Accelerator, a community food hall at 2112 North 30th Street, next to Big Mama’s Kitchen. Last day will be October 31st. The family-owned restaurant will focus on catering and its food trailer. – Nicole Buntgen

Mexican Restaurant Coming to 142nd & Fort

Signage is up for Casa Jalisco, a Mexican bar and grill, at 14242 Fort Street in Standing Bear Plaza near 144th & Fort. The family-owned restaurant is set to open this fall. - Nicole Buntgen

Goodwill Opens NW Omaha Location

Goodwill Industries, Inc., opened a new retail location last week at 18905 Evans Street. The 15,000 sq. ft. building includes the retail floor, drive-thru donation center, online pick-up and a community training room.

Southwest Plans Temporary Non-Stop Route to Columbus

Southwest Airlines is offering a temporary non-stop flight between Omaha’s Eppley Airfield and John Glenn Columbus International Airport just to serve Husker fans traveling to watch the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ football game versus The Ohio State Buckeyes. The non-stop flight will leave Omaha on Friday October 25 and return Sunday, October 27.

Coffee Shop Opening in La Vista

Las Chilenas, a coffee shop and bakery, plans to open soon at 8064 South 84th Street in La Vista. The business describes itself as having a “cozy atmosphere, delicious coffee options and a variety of desserts and empanadas that will delight your palate.”

Chick-fil-A Opens This Thursday on West Maple Road

The new Chick-fil-A restaurant at 156th & West Maple Road opens this Thursday. Grahm Talbitzer is the local franchise owner. Located next to Union Pizzeria, Chick-fil-A will be open for dine-in, carry-out and third-party delivery from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The drive-thru will remain open until 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It will be the seventh Chick-fil-A in the Omaha market.

Indoor Golf Business Opens in Gretna

Net Par, an indoor golf simulator and sports bar, has opened at 17809 Cypress Drive in Gretna near 180th & Highway 370. The venue opened its first Nebraska location last December in the Capitol District downtown. – Nicole Buntgen

Site-1 Brewing Teams Up with Backlot Taphouse

Barstow Hospitality Partners, owners of ACX Cinema and Backlot Taphouse, have invested in Site-1 Brewing, an awarding-winning brewery and taproom at 2566 Farnam Street. Backlot Taphouse now serves its signature Detroit-Style pizza at Site-1. Barstow Hospitality Partners now operates 56 movie screens and five restaurants in the greater Omaha region area plus Chicago, Milwaukee and Cincinnati.

Can Nebraska-Made Toilet Paper Be Cool?

Omaha-based nonprofit Outlook Nebraska, the state's sole toilet paper manufacturer, is making waves as one of two finalists in the NE Manufacturing Alliance's "Coolest Thing Made in Nebraska" contest. As the largest employer of blind and visually impaired individuals in a seven-state region, the nonprofit produces 25 miles of paper per minute, converting over 1.6 million pounds of 100% recycled fiber each month. – Darcie Dingman Willie

Board of Regents Take Next Step on Project Health

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved an amendment to the tri-party agreement between the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Kiewit Building Group and HDR Architecture regarding the massive Project Health development. The amendment increases some of the contract amounts, and more importantly, allows the parties to move forward to the validation phase. This phase of the project will establish an accurate estimation of the costs and scope. The Board also approved an auditing contract with KPMG for accounting services related to Project Health. Funding for this early phase of Project Health are derived strictly from donations, not allocated state or budgetary funding. – Isaiah Ang

Jams Old Market Temporarily Relocating

Jams Old Market at 1101 Harney Street is temporarily relocating just to the west to the former Mouth of the South location at 1111 Harney Street. The Jams space will undergo a HVAC renovation. That should be complete in November, at which time, Jams will go back to its normal space.

Dundee Restaurant Opens West Omaha Location

Good Lookin’ has opened its second location at 16920 Wright Plaza Suite 118 inthe Shops of Legacy. The breakfast-and-lunch café’s original location is in Dundee at 4919 Underwood Avenue. – Nicole Buntgen

New Private High School Opening in 2025

Omaha Christian Academy and Lifegate Christian School are joining forces to open a Christian high school in The Emerald Building at 2425 North 108th Street just southwest of Interstate 680 & West Maple Road. The schools also buying an adjoining 20 acres for athletic fields, according to Bill Black of NP Dodge, who represents the school. The new school should be open for the 2025 academic year with about 200 students, eventually growing to 600, staying a class B school.
