After 12 years in business, Pizzeria Davlo will close its doors permanently on Saturday, December 6th. The family-owned business is located at 14220 Fort Street and is known for Chicago-style, deep-dish pizza.

Bed & Biscuit, a locally owned dog lodging, daycare and grooming business, plans to open in the next month or two at 425 South 234th Street in Waterloo.

MECA Hires New CEO to Replace Retiring Roger Dixon
Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority has chosen Adam J. Straight to be the next president and CEO, replacing Roger Dixon, who is retiring at the end of this year after 25 years in the role. Straight comes to Omaha from New Orleans, where he served as the Chief Operating Officer of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the nation’s sixth largest convention center, overseeing day-to-day operations. Before his time in New Orleans, Straight worked at the Georgia World Congress Center Authority in Atlanta. He will be responsible for CHI Health Center Omaha, Charles Schwab Field and the RiverFront parks.
Omaha Ranked as 13th Best Craft Beer City in America
Omaha is the 13th best city in America for drinking craft beer in 2025, according to Craft Beer & Brewing. Chicago is number one. Other ranked cities in our region include Denver (#3), Kansas City (#8), St. Louis (#16) and Fort Collins, Colo. (#20). The top non-U.S. cities were Munich, Brussels, Prague, London and Dublin. One Nebraska brewery made the Top 20 Favorite Small Breweries list – Omaha’s Lumen Beer Co. at 1433 South 13th Street.
Prairie Coast Candle Co. Opens Storefront in Waterloo
Prairie Coast Candle Co. will celebrate the grand opening of its first retail storefront — Prairie Coast Candle Bar + Apothecary – Friday, December 13th from 4 to 8 p.m. at 23907 Southwest Street, Suite 5, in Waterloo. The store will be “a blend of candle-making workshops, curated retail and hands-on experiences.” The first 20 guests will receive a gift bag. Candle workshops begin December 14th.
Omaha-Based Hansen-Mueller Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Hansen-Mueller Co. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to DTN. The action follows reports from farmers in several states over the past few weeks that they have not been paid for grain deliveries to the company. According to the Omaha-based company’s filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Nebraska on Monday, the company reports an estimated 1,000 to 5,000 creditors and lists between $100 million and $500 million in both liabilities and assets.
Child Saving Institute Unveils $46 Million Upgrade
Child Saving Institute is completing the final phase of its $46 million “Campaign for Hope” capital project, which doubled the size of its main campus and expanded three service areas: early childhood education, mental health services and its on-site youth emergency shelter. The nonprofit will hold an open house Friday, December 12th from 4 to 6 p.m. at 4545 Dodge Street. The event is open to the public. and all ages are welcome to attend.
Westlake Ace Hardware Coming to Shadow Lake Towne Center
Construction has started on a Westlake Ace Hardware store in Papillion’s Shadow Lake Towne Center. The store will open soon in an 18,000 sq. ft., end-cap space formerly occupied by Best Buy. The exact address is 7949 Towne Center Parkway. A Barnes & Noble store recently opened next door. The closest existing Westlake Ace Hardware stores are in Ralston and Bellevue.
Curry in a Hurry Parks Food Truck in Olde Towne Bellevue
Curry in a Hurry has moved its food truck to Olde Towne Bellevue. The fast-casual Indian restaurant permanently parked its food truck at 221 Main Street, where it will offer a limited menu of chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, bowls, wraps, kabobs and more. Curry in a Hurry’s main restaurant is located at 2527 North 72nd Street.

Another Cocktail Bar Coming to Downtown Dundee
A building permit to renovate an existing building was filed this week for Elleon, a wine and cocktail lounge in historic Dundee. According to the permit, renovating the 900 sq. ft. space at 4915 Underwood Avenue will cost $200,000. The owners of A Foreign Taste are behind this business. – Isaiah Ang
Breakfast Restaurant Plans to Open in Aksarben
Renovations are underway inside the former Jones Bros. Cupcakes space at 2121 South 67th Street in Aksarben Village. According to City of Omaha building permit information, the new tenant will be a breakfast restaurant known as Breakfast Club Omaha.
Africa on a Plate to Hold Grand Opening Downtown
Africa on a Plate will hold a grand opening on November 15 at 301 South 16th Street in the former Panda House space. The restaurant serves East African dishes like okra, sambusa (samosas), and mullah kombo (peanut butter soup), as well as West African dishes like fufu and pepper soup. – Nicole Buntgen
Freddy’s Frozen Custard Coming to 204th & Harrison
The Coventry neighborhood northwest of 204th & Harrison Street is getting a Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers. According to a building permit, the 3,000 sq. ft., free-standing restaurant will have a drive-thru. This location will be the Wichita-based chain’s seventh in the Omaha metro. – Isaiah Ang

Church’s Texas Chicken has opened a second Omaha location at 2310 North 90th Street, where a former Godfather’s Pizza building once stood. Church’s operates an existing location at 4042 North 168th Street.
Warren Buffett Donates $1.3 Billion to Family Foundations
Warren Buffett made another sizable donation this week to four family foundations: The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, The Sherwood Foundation, The Howard G. Buffett Foundation and NoVo Foundation. The donations were made from 2.7 million B shares of Berkshire Hathaway stock, which amounts to about $1.3 billion. – Mark Champion
Clase Código Opens Near Oak View Mall
Clase Código Cocina & Tequila opened last Saturday at 3350 South 143rd Plaza near Oak View Mall. The former Applebee’s building has been completely renovated into an upscale Mexican restaurant. Some of the finer touches include handcrafted cocktails and tableside guacamole service. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday – Thursday. The restaurant stays open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Legal Family Services, a dedicated provider of family support, will hold a ribbon cutting tomorrow – Thursday, November 13 – for its new offices and facility at 11329 P Street, Suite 105. NOVA Apartments Building Ready for Tenants in Early 2026
The NOVA Apartments building will be ready for tenants in early 2026, according to leasing agents. Located at 1001 North 12th Street in Millwork Commons, NOVA has 13,000 sq. ft. of ground-floor retail space. The southernmost bay is already leased to Rally Cap Brewing Company, a sports bar from Baton Rouge, La. The remaining commercial space is still available. The 5-story, 84,582 sq. ft. building has 78 apartment units on the second through fifth floors.

Con Azúcar Café Coming to Stockyards Plaza
Con Azúcar Café is planning another Omaha location. The California-based coffee chain will open early next year in a 2,000 sq. ft. space at Stockyards Plaza near 33rd & L Street. The local franchisees also own Omaha’s Isla del Mar restaurants and are in the process of opening La Chime, an ice cream shop also in Stockyards Plaza. Boys Town to Break Ground on Major Research Hospital Expansion
Boys Town will hold a groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow afternoon, marking the start of a $300 million, 254,000 sq. ft. expansion of Boys Town National Research Hospital’s West Campus northeast of 144th & Pacific Street. The project – funded in part by a major gift from the Ryan Family Foundation – will add hospital beds, surgical suites and research space, allowing Boys Town to care for more patients, grow its medical staff and unite research and clinical care in one location.
OPPD Takes Delivery of Additional Turbine at Sarpy County Plant
Omaha Public Power District hauled a 225-megawatt combustion turbine last night from a Gretna rail siding to its Turtle Creek power station at 168th & Fairview Road in Sarpy County. The natural gas turbine will help OPPD meet increasing energy demands. The 35-foot-long turbine weighs 560,000 pounds – equivalent to a Boeing 787 airplane at maximum capacity. It was built over the course of 20 months in Berlin, Germany, and traveled by barge to Houston and then by rail to Gretna, arriving last week.
Image Studios Plans to Open in La Vista City Centre
Image Studios plans to open near 84th & Barmettler Drive in Suite C of La Vista’s City Centre. The business will offer salon suites to be rented by independent beauty professionals. Build-out is currently underway in the 5,000 sq. ft. space, according to Perkins-Critser Construction. Completion is planned for the end of this year.
Baird Holm Opens Office in Downtown Lincoln
Baird Holm LLP has opened an office in downtown Lincoln at 301 South 13th Street. Headquartered in Omaha’s WoodmenLife Tower, Baird Holm is Nebraska’s oldest and largest continuously operating law firm. The office will provide the same legal services as the Omaha headquarters, including estate planning, corporate law, labor and employment, healthcare and real estate.
Don & Millie’s Taking Over Zio’s Space at 180th & Center
A building permit application was filed on November 3 for Don & Millie’s at 18110 Wright Street, one of Zio’s Pizzeria’s current locations, suggesting the burger chain plans to take over the pizza space. Neither business has confirmed a timeline. Zio’s was founded in 1985 and has three other Omaha locations. Build-Out Underway at Future Golf Galaxy Store
Golf Galaxy plans to open a store at 12204 K Plaza in the former Buy Buy Baby space at L Street Marketplace. Interior build-out is now underway inside the 25,000 sq. ft. space between Ross Dress for Less and World Market. Golf Galaxy is a retail store with indoor golf practice space. Its current location is in the Oak View Mall area at 3425 Oak View Drive.
Ice Cream Shop Opening in Stockyards Plaza
La Chime plans to open by the end of this year at 33rd & L Street. The locally owned ice cream shop will operate in a 1,600 sq. ft. space in Stockyards Plaza next to DaVita Dialysis, according to Perkins-Critser Construction which is building out the space. The local franchisees are the same people who own Isla del Mar.
Dirty Birds Owners to Launch Colette’s Mercato Downtown
Colette’s Mercato, a concept from the owners of Dirty Birds, will open at 500 South 18th Street downtown. The scratch sandwich shop will specialize in Italian sandwiches, retail wine and beer, plus house-made bread and cured meats. Anticipated opening is spring 2026. - Nicole Buntgen
Holy Name Housing Corporation to Build Infill Project
Holy Name Housing Corporation is building a small, infill residential project, called Tukey Heights at 36th & Saratoga Street that will bring needed low-income housing options. The development site is bounded by 36th, 37th and Saratoga streets as well as Sorenson Parkway. The site will be subdivided into 35 lots with a variety of for-sale housing options including single-family detached homes, row houses and duplexes. Valvoline Instant Oil Change Plans Two Locations
Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations are planned for 192nd & West Center Road and 72nd & Crown Pointe Avenue in Sorenson Park Plaza. The southwest location will be in a 1,700 sq. ft., one-story building. The developer also intends to build a 1,300 sq. ft., one-story, multi-tenant commercial building on the same 1.17-acre site. The Sorenson Park Plaza location will neighbor Golden Coral Buffett and Taco Bell. That site is .95 acres and will have a 3-bay, 1,800 sq. ft., one-story building. - Isaiah Ang
Omaha Children’s Museum Backs Away from New Building
Omaha Children’s Museum announced today that it is pausing the capital campaign that would have funded a new building at 8th & Douglas Street. The museum will remain at its current location at 500 South 20th Street. Board president Dana Washington said the museum would revisit expansion plans “when the time is right.” The museum announced in October 2024 that it would build a 4-story, state-of-the-art facility on the north side of Heartland of America Park designed by internationally renowned architecture firm Snøhetta. It was scheduled to open in 2027.
Les Schwab Tire Center Plans to Build at 204th & F
Les Schwab Tire Center plans to build a store in the Iron Bluff mixed-use development southwest of 204th & F Street. The Omaha Planning Board this week approved the amendment to the mixed-use agreement to allow for auto repair services. This Les Schwab store will be located on a 1-acre lot and will consist of a 9.775 sq. ft., one-story building with seven services bays. - Isaiah Ang
U-Haul Opening North Omaha Location
U-Haul Co. of Nebraska announced that Expressway Detail, LLC, a local car wash and detail company, signed on as a U-Haul neighborhood dealer. The company is located at 4501 Florence Boulevard and will offer U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment and moving supplies.
Modern Love Owners Launch Fifth House in Blackstone
Fifth House, a start-up vegan restaurant, opened October 31 in the former Get Real Sandwiches space at 3901 Farnam Street in Blackstone District. The restaurant’s tagline, “the vegan joint of your dreams,” introduces a refreshed concept from the owners of Modern Love, which closed in December 2024. – Nicole Buntgen
Light Industrial Project Underway in South Omaha
A light industrial project is underway in South Omaha. The Omaha Planning Board approved a Tax Increment Financing application for El Toro Plaza, a 5-acre redevelopment area southeast of 25th & Z Street. The site had been an eye sore for many years. The developer, Ryan Sell, plans to build a 32,000 sq. ft., light industrial building, which will have warehousing, office and manufacturing space. The $10.3 million project is expected to come online at the end of 2026. – Isaiah Ang

Utah-Based Golf Franchise Opening in Miracle Hills
Another indoor golf franchise is coming to Omaha. Tee Box will open its first location outside the mountain west in Miracle Hills Plaza, joining Funny Bone, Draftcade and Hawaiian Bros Island Grill in the revitalized shopping center at 114th & West Dodge Road. Tee Box will open early next year in a 4,000 sq. ft. space north of Funny Bone. Tee Box combines state-of-the-art technology and weight training to improve golf skills all year round. Vino Mas Plans to Open Second Store in Shops of Legacy
Vino Mas will open a second location in the Shops of Legacy at 2835 South 170th Plaza in the former Cellar 44 space. Opening is planned mid-November. Vino Mas is a boutique wine shop with a current location at 14450 Eagle Run Drive. In addition to a wide range of retail wines, Vino Mas has a wine bar and hosts a weekly music series and various wine tasting events.
