OrthoNebraska Expands Elkhorn-Area Location
OrthoNebraska will hold a ribbon cutting Tuesday, January 6, for its recently completed expansion project at 3415 South 205th Street. The 28,000 sq. ft. addition includes four operating rooms and four treatment rooms, allowing more outpatient procedures like carpal tunnel surgeries and common injections to be done quickly. The treatment rooms are equipped similarly to the operating rooms. Most patients can now get in and out in about an hour.
Brow & Lash Opens Near 168th & West Maple Road
Brow & Lash opened last week at 3510 North 167th Circle, Suite 401. That’s just southeast of 168th & West Maple Road. Locally owned by Sravanthi Tatikonda, Brow & Lash offers professional eyebrow, wax, facial and lash services. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. weekdays. The business closes at 5 p.m. on weekends.
Butcher Shop Plans to Open Applewood Plaza
La Antigua, a butcher shop and general store, plans to open in a 1,600 sq. ft. space at 9505 Q Street in Applewood Plaza, according to a building permit for remodel of an existing space. – Isaiah Ang
Genesis Health Club Opening Midtown Location in January
Genesis Health Clubs will hold a ribbon cutting on January 23rd for its new gym at 3201 Farnam Street in Midtown Crossing. Genesis is taking over the former Alamo Drafthouse Cinema space.
Mechanical Contractors Association Moves to New Office
Mechanical Contractors Association of Omaha is moving to an office near 144th & F Street from its current Ralston location. According to a building permit for remodel of existing space, MCA is remodeling 3,500 sq. ft. at 3930 South 147th Street. MCA represents skilled workers in labor relations, provides training and advocates for members before elected officials. – Isaiah Ang
Fontenelle Forest Hosts 126th Annual Christmas Bird Count
Fontenelle Forest last week hosted its 126th annual Christmas Bird Count, which invites the public to tally the numbers of birds in the Forest. According to preliminary reports, volunteers identified 36 species and counted 2,554 individual birds. Some of the most frequently spotted species included European Starlings, American Robins, Canada Geese and White-breasted Nuthatches. Bald Eagles, Pileated Woodpeckers, Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks and Red-headed Woodpeckers were also sighted. – Mark Champion
Restaurant Opens in Former Sakura Bana Space
Mi So La Do Crafted Ramen is soft-opening at 7425 Dodge Street in the former Sakura Bana space near 74th & Dodge Street. Soft-opening menu items include tonkotsu ramen, handmade pork gyoza and takoyaki. The Japanese ramen concept is currently hiring but has yet to announce an official opening date. – Nicole Buntgen
RiverFront Parks Experience Major Increase in Visitors
In 2025, the RiverFront Parks have welcomed more than 2.3 million visitors, according to recent data. Throughout the year, the three parks – Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park and Lewis & Clark Landing – have hosted more than 600 events. By the end of the year, the total visitors may reach 2.8 million, which would be a nearly 50 percent increase over the number of visitors in 2024. – Isaiah Ang
Twin Peaks Sets February Opening Date in Omaha
Twin Peaks is officially returning to the Omaha market. The national sports bar chain will open February 2nd at 313 North 179th Street in Village Pointe West, according to a Twin Hospitality Group press release. The newly constructed, lodge-style restaurant will feature a made-from-scratch menu, wall-to-wall TVs and 64 beer taps split between two full-service bars. Twin Peaks previously operated an Omaha location near 173rd & West Center Road, which closed several years ago. – Nicole Buntgen
Chicago Fintech Company Plans to Open Omaha Office
Topstep, a fintech firm based in Chicago, is opening a new office in Omaha. According to a building permit, the company is remodeling 12,000 square feet at 9805 Q Street. Topstep provides a platform for day traders to access and trade live capital and provides training to increase performance. – Isaiah Ang
Heartland Ride Share Hosts Ride at the Dock Fundraiser
Heartland Bike Share hosted its second Ride at The Dock fundraiser at Millwork Commons on December 17. The event invited participants to ride stationary bikes through a virtual landscape and raised about $20,000 to support HBS operations. CEO Benny Foltz rode about 126 miles over the 12-hour event. – Mark Champion
Zaytuna Closes Inner Rail Location, Food Truck Remains Open
Zaytuna, a family-owned Mediterranean restaurant that opened in 2020, has permanently closed its Inner Rail Food Hall location in Aksarben Village at 1911 South 67th Street as of December 21. The restaurant’s food truck at 423 South 13th Street in downtown Omaha remains open for regular hours. – Nicole Buntgen
Smoothie King Opens 5th Omaha-Area Location
Smoothie King has opened its fifth Omaha-area location at 17813 Mandersen Street. That’s in a retail center still under construction northeast of 180th & West Maple Road. Other tenants planning to open in the same shopping center include L’Vinci Nails and a Kros Strain Brewing tap room. Smoothie King is a Coppell, Texas-based chain of frozen beverage shops.
Rush Market Opens on West Maple Corridor
The Rush Market is now open in the former Fresh Thyme grocery space at 14949 Evans Plaza along the West Maple Road corridor. Rush Market had been operating in the former Sears and Younkers stores at Oakview Mall. Fresh Thyme closed the store in late 2020. Rush Market is a furniture and home goods retailer known for selling overstocked, open-box and returned items at deep discounts.
Women’s-Only Club Opening This Spring in Regency
Legacy Collective, a women’s-only club plans to open April 1st at 10730 Pacific Street, Suite 210, in Regency Landing. The for-profit club is being developed by Dr. Sasha Shillcutt, a nationally recognized physician, author and speaker based in Omaha. Legacy Collective will provide women with “a dedicated space for meaningful connections, recharging, relaxing and networking.” Women’s clubs are common in major cities, but nothing like it currently exists in Omaha.
Elevator Coworking Expands to Lincoln & Kansas City
Elevator, an Omaha coworking office business, opened additional locations in Lincoln and Kansas City on December 1, according to Silicon Prairie News. In 2022, Elevator opened its first location at 1402 Jones Street near the Old Market, bringing a concept that combined traditional office coworking space with amenities needed to meet logistical needs, including warehousing space and docking. A second location opened in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier this year. A 67,000 sq. ft. location is underway in St. Louis. – Isaiah Ang
Goodwill Launches Good Threads Boutique
Goodwill Omaha has launched Good Threads, a boutique which aims to support individuals and families facing economic hardship by providing essential clothing and household items, free of charge. Individuals in need are referred through Goodwill’s trusted Community Partners, then are able to set up an appointment to browse the boutique. – Mark Champion
Union Pacific & Norfolk Southern File Merger Application
Union Pacific and Northern Suffolk filed a formal merger application with the Surface Transportation Board, the primary federal regulatory agency reviewing the historic merger. The application triggers a 30-day review of the application, one step in a lengthy review process that may take up to a year or more before a final decision is made. The 4,000-page application must be approved by the STB before required review, public comment and investigation take place. – Isaiah Ang
Popeye’s Chicken Opens Tomorrow Near 168th & Maple
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is scheduled to open tomorrow – Saturday, December 20th – at 3430 North 167th Street southeast of 168th & West Maple Road. The project, contracted by Perkins-Critser Construction, had been delayed due to revisions requested by Popeyes’ corporate office. Omaha-based Eat Out Now is the owner.
Second Sonny’s Airstream Trailer Coming to North Downtown
Noddle Companies plans to launch a second version of Sonny’s, the outdoor bar that operates out of an Airstream camping trailer. The original Sonny’s is located in Aksarben Village and is very popular during warm-weather months. The second Airstream would be located in the Builders District on a small park recently completed between 16th and 17th streets a little south of Cuming Street. Pending approval from nearby business owners, the second Sonny’s would open this spring.

Creighton University Survey Shows Rural Economic Growth
For only the second time in 2025, Creighton University’s Rural Mainstreet Index climbed above growth neutral, according to the monthly survey of bank CEOs in rural areas of a 10-state region dependent on agriculture and/or energy. The region’s reading for December increased to 50.1, its highest reading since July 2025, and was up from November’s 44.0. The index ranges between 0 and 100, with a reading of 50.0 representing growth neutral.
Foxy Sushi Opens Second Location Inside Brickway
Foxy Sushi has opened a second location inside Brickway Brewery & Distillery at 1116 Jackson Street in the Old Market. Its original location is at 18101 Chicago Street. Brickway is now open daily at 11 a.m. and now serves a Shiki Lager—a Japanese-style rice lager developed by its head brewer. - Nicole Buntgen
Joslyn Expansion Wins International Architecture Award
The Joslyn Art Museum was named a World Title recipient in the Prix Versailles 2025, an annual series of awards honoring outstanding architectural and interior design. The Joslyn won the World Title: Special Prize for an Exterior in the museum category for its 2024 Rhonda & Howard Hawks Pavilion expansion. The awards celebrated 72 “World’s Most Beautiful” projects across eight Prix Versailles categories: museums, hotels, restaurants, emporiums, airports, campuses, passenger stations and sports. Of the projects, only 10 are located in the United States. Only 24 projects received World Titles, and just four of those titles were awarded to U.S. projects, including The Joslyn. – Grace Huffstetler
Thirteen Supernovas Matches to Be Broadcast Nationally
The Omaha Supernovas will have 13 of their 28 matches featured on national broadcasts this season, as Major League Volleyball (MLV) unveiled its full schedule Thursday. The Supernovas have announced their local broadcast coverage for next season, with Nebraska Public Media (five matches) and News Channel Nebraska (four matches) providing statewide coverage for nine of their 14 home matches. The 13 national broadcasts will air across CBS Sports Network, VICE TV and the Roku Sports Channel. - Cole Young
NYC Deli & Juice Bar to Open in Northwest Omaha
NYC Deli & Juice Bar will hold its grand opening December 19 at 3949 North 132nd Street in a former KFC restaurant building a couple blocks north of West Maple Road. The first 1,000 customers will receive a free sandwich. Menu items include cold-pressed juices, smoothies, milkshakes and house-made gelato. – Nicole Buntgen
Guitars & Cadillacs Replacing Bushwackers in Ralston
Guitars & Cadillacs is returning to the Omaha metro area. The live country music and dance hall will open in March at 7401 Main Street in Ralston. Guitars & Cadillacs will take over Bushwackers at The Granary. Bushwackers will likely close in January. Omaha’s original Guitars & Cadillacs was located in Old Mill South and closed back in 2003.
GreenState Credit Union Building Branch in Papillion
GreenState Credit Union is building a branch office on the northeast corner of 150th & Highway 370 in the Steel Ridge development. The Iowa-based credit union opened its first Omaha location near 180th & West Maple and plans another one at 204th & Harrison Street. GreenState operates nearly 30 branches across Iowa, Illinois and the Chicago area. It was previously known as University of Iowa Community Credit Union.
Interior Design Firm Moves to Olde Towne Elkhorn
Fluff Interior Design and Fluff Market has relocated from Bel Air Plaza near 120th & West Center Road to 20603 Elkhorn Drive, Suite 100, in Olde Towne Elkhorn. The company is an award-winning interior design firm, providing residential room design, remodel, construction and commercial services.
Methodist Physicians Clinic Opening Next Month at 204th & Q
Methodist Health System plans to open its next Physicians Clinic on January 5th in a recently completed building northeast of 204th & Q Street. The clinic will offer family medicine, urgent care, imaging services, including X-ray, ultrasound, and mammography, as well as women’s health services. The clinic will open with 11 practitioners.
Hiro 88 Reopens Old Market Location After Renovations
Hiro 88 reopened its Old Market restaurant on December 8 at 1308 Jackson Street following a planned remodel. The location was temporarily closed for about two months during the renovation. - Nicole Buntgen
HOTWORX Plans to Open in Atlas Apartment Building
The Atlas Apartments building just west of Creighton University will be getting another commercial user on the ground floor. According to a building permit, HOTWORX, is leasing 2,400 sq. ft. HOTWORX is an international yoga studio chain with more than 800 locations worldwide, including three existing ones in the Omaha Metro. The Atlas was formerly St. Joseph Hospital before NuStyle Development transformed it into a 732-unit apartment complex. - Isaiah Ang
Sushi Restaurant Coming to 49th & Dodge in Dundee
Signage is in place for Shiki Sushi at 4900 Dodge Street in the former Varsity Sports Café space near 50th & Dodge in Dundee. Additional details about the new concept have yet to be announced. - Nicole Buntgen
North Omaha Visitor Center Opens at 24th & Burdette
The North Omaha Visitor Center, a nonprofit whose mission is to celebrate North Omaha’s history, culture and economic growth, officially opened its location at the intersection of 24th & Burdette Streets last Friday. The space features a coffee shop, gift shop and presentation gallery. It will host events as well as provide tours of North Omaha. – Mark Champion
Former Bella Vita Space to Become Two New Restaurants
Bella Vita Ristorante, which closed in 2023 at 2620 Main Street in downtown Elkhorn, will soon be transformed by the owners of Main Street Cellar. The main floor will become La Vida Nova, expected to open in May 2026, while an unnamed fine dining concept will open upstairs a few months later. – Nicole Buntgen
Senior Market Sales to Relocate Headquarters Office
Senior Market Sales, a local insurance broker company, is relocating its headquarters. The company has been a longtime fixture with prominent signage at 8420 West Dodge Road. According to a building permit for renovation of existing space, Senior Market Sales will be moving just around the corner to 8801 Indian Hills Drive, the campus of Lincoln Financial Group’s Omaha office. – Isaiah Ang
J. Gorat’s Deli & Market Opens Near 204th & Pacific
J. Gorat’s Deli & Market has opened at 1220 South 203rd Street in the former Burger Detour building southeast of 204th & Pacific Street. The locally owned concept focuses on scratch-made food using both local and imported ingredients. The business also features products from Wahoo Locker, Fariner Bakery, Betty Rae’s Ice Cream along with wine, beer and spirits. – Nicole Buntgen
Clio Plans Second Restaurant in West Omaha
Clio, the popular Mediterranean restaurant in the Old Market, will open a second location in west Omaha. Clio will replace Blatt Beer and Table at 2835 South 170th Plaza in the Shops of Legacy. Both brands are owned by Flagship Restaurant Group. Blatt will close December 31st. Clio is expected to open in its place late spring of 2026.
Plank Provisions to Be Converted into Tex-Asian Pub
Flagship Restaurant Group will close Plank Provisions in the Old Market and reopen it as Anthem, a Tex-Asian pub. Plank Provisions is a seafood restaurant and oyster bar at 1205 Howard Street. Its last day will be December 31st. Renovations will take several months. Anthem is expected to open in June. Anthem has one existing location in Austin, Tex., and is described as a “design-savvy eatery for Latin & Asian pub fare, plus tiki drinks & sake bombs.”
Laos Thai Restaurant to Close December 31
Laos Thai Restaurant at 4520 South 24th Street will close on December 31. In a Facebook post, the local restaurant cited family commitments, financial challenges and time limitations as its reasoning. The business has been serving Asian cuisine for more than two decades. – Nicole Buntgen
Cocktail Lounge Coming to Former VIP Lounge Space
Alibi Room plans to open in the former VIP Lounge building at 9001 Arbor Street northwest of 90th & West Center Road. The future cocktail lounge is under consideration for a liquor license. No opening date has been announced. The VIP Lounge moved to 8585 Frederick Street back in August.
