AutoZone Plans to Take Over Former CVS
AutoZone plans to take over the former CVS Pharmacy at 8315 West Center Road, on the southeast corner of 84th and Center, according to a building permit for remodel of an existing building. It will be the national auto parts retailer‘s 14th Omaha-area store. – Isaiah Ang
Texas-Based Company Chooses Omaha for Branch Office
4-Horn Trench & Shoring, a Texas-based provider of trench safety equipment and engineered shoring solutions for underground construction, opened a branch at 6911 C Street in Omaha. The facility includes a 31,754 sq. ft., fenced-in laydown yard and a 4,400 sq. ft. building. The Omaha location is 4-Horn Trench & Shoring’s ninth location nationwide and its second branch in the Midwest, joining a site in Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
Peregrine Hotel Opens Gilded Feather; Plans Debut for The Perch
The Peregrine Omaha Hotel has opened The Gilded Feather, a full-service restaurant inside the downtown hotel at 18th & Douglas Street. The hotel will also open The Perch, its rooftop bar concept, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for March 24 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Chick-fil-A to Build Restaurant at 204th & Q Street
The Omaha area’s ninth Chick-fil-A restaurant will soon be under construction. According to a city building permit, Chick-fil-A will open at 5121 South 205th Street. That location is on the northwest corner of 204th & Q Street and also has a Baker’s supermarket under construction. – Isaiah Ang
Council Bluffs Rivers Edge Project Prepares Phase 5
Phase Four of the Council Bluffs River’s Edge project includes the currently under-construction MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower and Treetop Walk which is being funded by private donations raised by the Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact (SINC) and slated to open this summer. This week, SINC presented plans for Phase 5 of River’s Edge, which includes a play area, dog park, and a plaza recognizing donors. – Mark Champion
Omaha Steaks to Close Restaurant Supply Division
Omaha Steaks will close its restaurant supply division to focus on retail and direct-to-consumer sales. The family-run meat purveyor plans to open more than a dozen new retail stores this year and consolidate plant production at its Omaha facility near 90th & F Streets. – Nicole Buntgen
Stella’s Bar & Grill Temporarily Closes for Fire Damage
Stella’s Bar & Grill suffered fire damage early this morning at 106 Galvin Road South in Bellevue. The restaurant will be closed for an undetermined period of time. The 90-year-old business is famous for its burgers served on paper napkins as well as the “Stellanator,” a massive burger that challenges guests to finish it in 45 minutes or less.
Sensory Safe Salon Opens in North Park Commons
Queen’s Touch Salon has opened inside Iconic Salon Suites at 2073 North 120th Street in North Park Commons. Locally owned by stylist Joahnea Turner, the business is a “sensory-safe” salon, using Applied Behavior Analysis to create a more comfortable haircare and grooming experience for autistic customers and their families.
Lauritzen Gardens Nominated for Best Botanical Garden
USA TODAY has nominated Omaha’s Lauritzen Gardens as one of the best botanical gardens as part of its 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The Omaha attraction hopes to end up ranked number one. Edwards Auto Group Opens Kia Dealership in Council Bluffs
Edwards Auto Group has opened a new Kia dealership at 3600 South Expressway Street in Council Bluffs. The dealership features a modern showroom that displays the complete Kia lineup, an expanded service center and a larger vehicle inventory, according to a press release. Edwards Auto Group is a family‐owned network of dealerships in Iowa and Nebraska.
The Buckle Replacing Eddie Bauer at Nebraska Crossing
Eddie Bauer has closed its store at Nebraska Crossing at Interstate 80 & Highway 31 in Gretna. The Seattle-based retailer is closing stores across the nation. Coming-soon signs indicate the space will be filled by The Buckle, the Kearney, Nebraska-based clothing retailer that has 444 stores in 42 states.
Milla Beauty Lounge Opens Near 204th & Q
Milla Beauty Lounge has opened at 20121 P Street, Suite 105. That’s northeast of 204th & Q Street. The locally owned business soft-opened on January 16th and held its grand opening January 30th. According to its website, Milla Beauty Lounge “specializes in a full range of services that cater to your hands, feet, face, and scalp – all delivered with the highest standards of hygiene and client care, while you enjoy a calming experience.”
Forbes Magazine Features Omaha Billionaire Omani Carson
Forbes featured billionaire Ron Carson last week, calling him the “New Age Oracle of Omaha.” Carson is the founder of Carson Group, which has $55 billion in assets under management and 672 employees at its west Omaha headquarters. The article explores how Carson, 61, made a radical life change, by engaging personal coaches, taking psychedelics and fasting. He has legally changed his first name to Omani, and according to the article, has found joy.
Jerico’s Restaurant Closing After Nearly 50 Years in Business
After nearly 50 years in business, Jerico’s Restaurant plans to close permanently. Its last day of service will be February 14, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. Located at 11732 West Dodge Road, Jerico’s is famous for prime rib, steaks and its classic décor.
Hibachi Restaurant Plans to Open at 180th & Maple
A Japanese hibachi restaurant is coming to northwest Omaha. According to a building permit, the restaurant will be called Hibana and will be located in a currently under construction retail strip mall at 17807 Manderson Street next door to an existing Smoothie King shop. The Bubbly Tart Closes Midtown Bakery
The Bubbly Tart has permanently closed its bakery at 3020 Leavenworth Street in Midtown. The closure follows a planned sale that did not move forward, according to the owner. The local bakery was known for its macarons, champagne service and tea parties. – Nicole Buntgen
Rod Rhoden Foundation Pledges $1 Million for Auto Tech Students
The Rod Rhoden Foundation has pledged an initial $1 million to Metropolitan Community College for a scholarship that will continue Rod Rhoden’s legacy of supporting opportunities in Nebraska’s automotive industry. The pledge establishes the Rod’s Auto Tech Team Scholarship, available to students of all ages pursuing automotive technology certificate or associate degree programs, including MCC Career Academy completers. The scholarship is expected to impact 45-plus students per year. – Mark Champion
Scooter’s Coffee Receives Two National Rankings
Scooter’s Coffee ranked ninth on the 2026 Franchise Times Fast & Serious list, ranking in the top ten for the fifth year in a row. The Omaha-based coffee chain also ranked third overall on Technomic’s 2026 list of America’s Favorite Chains, including third among all quick service restaurants. In this year’s rankings, Scooter’s saw its highest scores come from the Service & Hospitality and Convenience & Takeout categories.
The Bull Moose to Close Center Street Bar
The Bull Moose will permanently close its bar at 3548 Center Street on February 14, with its final day of service on February 13. The bar is named after Theodore Roosevelt’s Bull Moose Party and features historic artwork tied to his visit to the area. – Nicole Buntgen
Omaha Home Builder Expanding to Lincoln
The Home Company, a long time Omaha-based homebuilder, is expanding its semi-and-semi-custom homebuilding efforts to Lincoln, starting with 12 houses in various neighborhoods including Wilderness Commons. Construction could begin as soon as the end of this month. The Home Company built more than 180 houses in 2025. In Lincoln, the company plans to build primarily expansive ranches and a handful of 2-story plans. The Home Company was acquired by Iowa-based Hubbell Realty Company in 2019.

Scooter’s Building New Location at 120th & L Street
Scooter’s Coffee plans to build a restaurant at 12020 Anne Street on the southwest corner of 120th & L Street. The future coffee shop has posted a “coming soon” sign on the site and has received plumbing and electrical building permits from the City of Omaha. Construction had started on the site last year for a Burger Detour restaurant until the brand abruptly went out of business.
Auto Detailer Opens Brick-and-Mortar Location in Bennington
Invictus Mobile Auto Care has opened a brick-and-mortar detail studio at 12722 North 158th Street in Bennington, offering detailing, ceramic coating, window tinting and paint protection film services. CHI Health Center Omaha Convention Center Expansion Topping Out Soon
Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority will hold a topping-out ceremony February 16 to celebrate the placement of the final, highest beam in the CHI Health Center’s $200 million convention center expansion. The 90,000 sq. ft., 2-level addition on the east side features floor-to-ceiling glass walls and expands the number of meeting rooms from 16 to 41. Upon completion, CHI’s convention space will total 420,000 sq. ft. The existing convention center space will receive updates to flooring, woodwork and bathrooms.
Borsheims Plans Major Renovation of Regency Store
Borsheims, one of America’s largest independent jewelry stores, will renovate its store at Regency Shopping Center. The project will transform 20,000 sq. ft. of showroom space into an open-concept environment. Features include additional seating areas for private consultations, an updated luxury salon dedicated to high-end jewelry collections and a gold exterior façade. HDR is leading the design, while Kiewit is the contractor. Renovations will begin following Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting this May. The store will remain open during construction.
Nebraska Medicine requests dismissal of lawsuit
Nebraska Medicine has asked the Douglas County District Court to dismiss the lawsuit filed last month involving the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and Clarkson Regional Health Services. In a press release, Nebraska Medicine leadership and its Board of Directors said they are focused on moving forward under the single-member governance structure approved by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents last month.
Mid-America Manufacturing Begins Year on Weak Note
For the fourth time in the past five months, Creighton University’s Mid-America Business Conditions Index, a leading economic indicator for the nine-state region stretching from Minnesota to Arkansas, moved below growth neutral. The index, which ranges between 0 and 100 with 50.0 representing growth neutral, increased to a weak 49.6 from 47.6 in December.
Werner Enterprises Acquires Tennessee Trucking Company
Werner Enterprises, Inc., has acquired Tennessee-based First Enterprises, Inc., a dedicated trucking company known as FirstFleet, for approximately $245 million in cash. Werner will also separately acquire real estate properties directly from FirstFleet. The acquisition establishes Werner as the fifth-largest dedicated carrier in the United States.
Meddys to Open Second Omaha Location at One Pacific Place
Meddys plans to open a second Omaha location at One Pacific Place. The quick-casual Mediterranean restaurant has signed a lease for a 3,500 sq. ft. space at 10317 Pacific Street, formerly occupied by Andrés Tortillery, according to Holly Jones of the Lund Company. Opening is planned for this fall. Meddys’ existing Omaha location is at Village Pointe. Based in Wichita, Kan., Meddys was founded in 2014 and now has 15 locations in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska.
Take 2 Omaha Opens in Former Rush Market Space
Take2 Omaha, a seasonal consignment store, has opened a new location inside Oak View Mall in the former Rush Market space. The business sells gently used and new children’s clothing, shoes, toys, books, baby equipment and furniture. - Nicole Buntgen
Burlington Social Opening February 6th in Little Italy
Burlington Social plans to open February 6 in the former Burlington League space at 1002 South 10th Street in Little Italy. Burlington Social is the third location in the Social family, joining Blackstone Social at 3910 Farnam Street, and Social 192 near 192nd & Pacific Street. In addition to the main bar, Burlington Social features a basement lounge called The Talk Back To Me Lounge, “a fun, laid-back space designed for late-night hangs, cocktails and a more intimate lounge vibe.”
55+ Residential Building Coming to Avenue One
A senior housing project will be soon underway in the Avenue One Good Life District. The housing will be built on vacant property at the southwest corner of 188th & Burke Steet, according to a building permit. The project consists of a 4-story residential building with 165 units, including 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. Amenities will include an indoor pool and spa area plus a basement parking garage. Crisp & Green plans to open a second location in the Shoppes of Legacy. According to a building permit for remodel, the health food restaurant chain will be located at 16902 Wright Plaza, Suite 195, the bay on the end of the building next to California Bronze Tanning. Marigold’s Mercantile Opens in Aksarben Village
Marigold’s Mercantile, a home goods store, has opened in the former Book Nook space at 2115 South 67th Street in Aksarben Village next to Godfather’s Pizza. The shop offers curated home goods, pantry staples and locally made products. - Nicole Buntgen
Foodbank for the Heartland Opening New Building
Food Bank for the Heartland is closed while the organization moves into its recently completed 105,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse building on the northeast corner of 84th & L Streets. The food bank will officially open at the location on February 2. - Mark Champion
Twin Peaks Files for Bankruptcy but Restaurants Staying Open
Twin Hospitality Group Inc., the parent company of Twin Peaks Restaurant, has commenced voluntary chapter 11 proceedings. The filing is intended to reduce debt, maximize value for stakeholders and support long-term growth of its restaurant brands. The restaurant still plans to open its brand-new Omaha location next month in the Village Pointe West development. Founded in 2005, Twin Peaks has 114 locations in the United States and Mexico.
Avenue Two Consignment Opens Near 74th & Pacific
Avenue Two Consignment, a modern consignment boutique specializing in curated designer fashion, is now open at 1022 South 74th Plaza. Avenue Two carries designer handbags, dresses, tops and shoes, with one of the store’s signature highlights being its "denim bar," an assortment of denim styles, fits and brands. Avenue Two was founded by Rachel Heiser and Meghan Conway Rowen, two Omaha moms who bonded over their shared time living in New York City and their mutual love of fashion.
Bellevue Takes Steps to Develop Possible “Racino”
The Bellevue City Council last week approved an option purchase agreement for land near the future Bellevue Bay waterpark for a possible “racino” project. Bellevue would give BELREV, LLC the option to purchase 22 acres for $1,915,220. The option agreement expires in January of 2027, however, it may be extended up to three more years. Under the terms of the agreement, the developer will pay an annual fee of 1 percent of the purchase price. – Isaiah Ang
Cold Stone Creamery Closes Two Stores, Opening One
Cold Stone Creamery earlier this week closed its stores at Midtown Crossing in Omaha and Nebraska Crossing in Gretna. The national ice cream chain has four other shops in Omaha, all of which are staying open. Cold Stone also plans to open a store soon on the southwest corner of 156th & State Street.
Benjamin’s Neighborhood Kitchen to Open January 30
Benjamin’s Neighborhood Kitchen will hold a grand opening celebration on January 30 at 3623 North 129th Street in Eagle Run Plaza in the former Copal Mexican Cuisine space. The restaurant reopened under new ownership and will offer 50-cent margaritas to the first 50 customers. - Nicole Buntgen
Mootz Pizza to Close Countryside Village Restaurant
Mootz will permanently close its Countryside Village restaurant at 8725 Shamrock Road on January 31. The family-owned pizzeria opened its brick-and-mortar location in August 2023 after starting as a food truck and is known for Neapolitan-style pizza. – Nicole Buntgen
