How Do We Rate?

July 16, 2024

When you think of a chamber of commerce, you might expect them to proudly highlight the strengths of their community – after all, chambers are often referred to as community cheerleaders. Yet, when others provide testimonials or competitive rankings, they offer an alternative and often more impartial viewpoint.

We in Omaha are known for our competitive spirit – not only in supporting our sports teams but also in terms of our business climate and quality of life. The Greater Omaha Chamber monitors various rankings for several reasons: to gauge the competitive landscape and to identify trends that matter to businesses and individuals alike.

This year, Omaha has garnered recognition in several quality of life and cost-of-living rankings. In March, Forbes named Omaha “The Best City to Move to in 2024,” a distinction that caught attention. Forbes highlighted Omaha’s appeal with its blend of affordability, economic opportunities, pleasant climate, employment prospects, and safety, ultimately selecting it as the top choice.

Comparisons come from diverse sources, including government entities like the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Earlier this year, they identified Douglas County as the fastest-growing economy among the nation’s largest counties, leading to headlines like “Tortoise beats hare,” as Omaha outpaced cities like Austin and Nashville – not a daily occurrence by any means!

Explore our full list of rankings at Omaha Chamber Rankings and keep a few in mind to share as you travel or when people inquire about Omaha. These resources are also handy, along with our Movers Packet, when recruiting talent to our area.

Omaha is undeniably a fantastic community to live and work in – and it’s not just us saying so!
