The Greater Omaha Chamber yesterday applauded the Nebraska Legislature’s passage of LB 1165, the Grow the Good Life Act, one of the most significant economic development packages in recent years aimed at strengthening Nebraska’s ability to compete for jobs, talent, and investment.
The legislation modernizes Nebraska’s economic development tools by enhancing performance-based incentives, strengthening employer retention strategies, expanding flexibility for childcare support, and introducing new mechanisms to attract and retain workforce talent. It builds upon and enhances the ImagiNE Nebraska Act, reinforcing the state’s commitment to long-term economic growth and competitiveness.
“LB 1165’s passage by the Nebraska Legislature is a significant step forward for Nebraska’s economic future and a clear signal that our state is serious about competing, and winning, in today’s national economy,” said Heath Mello, President & CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber. “This legislation strengthens our ability to grow primary jobs, support working families, and provide the tools needed for businesses to expand and invest here in Nebraska. At a time when states across the country are aggressively competing for talent and opportunity, LB 1165 positions Nebraska to win with the best of them.
“We are grateful to Governor Pillen, Senator von Gillern, the 42 members of the Legislature who supported LB 1165, and Mayor John Ewing, Jr. for their leadership, and to the many business and community leaders who made their voices heard. This was a true team effort. Our focus now turns to execution; ensuring these tools are used effectively to drive growth, attract investment, and build a stronger, more competitive Nebraska for the long term.”
LB 1165 comes at a critical time, as states across the country continue to aggressively pursue high-impact economic development opportunities. The Greater Omaha Chamber played a vital role in the creation the legislation and advancing it throughout the session, including highlighting the policy framework in the recently released Omaha COMPETES report and through formal testimony before the Legislature’s Revenue Committee highlighting the importance of maintaining competitive, performance-based economic development tools.
Once LB 1165 is signed into law as expected, the Chamber will continue to work alongside state leaders, businesses, and community partners to ensure effective implementation and to maximize its impact on economic growth, job creation, and long-term competitiveness across Greater Omaha and the state of Nebraska.
