The Opus Group Moves Forward on UNMC Parking Garage

November 13, 2024

The Opus Group announced that it will begin post-tension construction later this month on a new city-of-Omaha-owned parking garage in the EDGE District, the new University of Nebraska Medical Center multi-use district anchored by the Catalyst Building.

The site is situated between 48th Street to the west, Saddle Creed Road to the east, Farnam Street to the north and Leavenworth Street to the south. The 7-story structure, located at 4605 Farnam Street, will provide 753 parking stalls, including four electric vehicle charging stations.

Koelbel & Company and Omaha-based GreenSlate Development are developing the garage as well as the nearby Catalyst Building. Opus was selected for the project after the successful completion of Storz Warehouse, a 202,000 sq. ft. industrial project adjacent to Eppley Airfield that was also developed by GreenSlate and design-built by Opus.

“We value and appreciate the trust GreenSlate has once again shown in us by tapping into our unique design-build model to improve efficiencies and maximize the budget on this project,” said Mike Anthony, director of construction with Opus. “There’s a significant need for parking within the district, particularly given expected future growth along Saddle Creek Road, and we’re pleased to be a part of meeting that need.”

“Opus was a great design-build partner on Storz Warehouse, so it was really an easy decision to bring them on for this project, which will provide much-needed parking for employees and visitors to the Catalyst Building and other nearby facilities,” said Matt Dwyer, GreenSlate principal and founder.

Construction of the parking structure’s two stairwells and elevator cores, each with two elevators, began in June and is now complete. Post-tension concrete work on the parking garage will begin later this month and is expected to be complete by October 2025.

Opus is the design-builder, architect and structural engineer of record on the project.
