Crews are making progress on the streetcar system’s vehicle maintenance facility at the southeastern corner of CHI Health Center Omaha’s Lot A in the shadow of the Interstate 480 viaduct. The site is just west of the Kiewit Luminarium. The facility will be used to maintain, repair and clean streetcars but will also include office space for streetcar management. Streetcar operators will start and end their shifts at the building.
Streetcars will roll into and out of the building just like a car in a garage. At least one of the bays will have an inspection pit under the tracks and raised platforms for accessing the top of the cars. The facility will also have space for parts storage as well as training areas for operators and mechanics.
