Food Bank for the Heartland Building

February 1, 2026

Food Bank for the Heartland will officially open its brand-new building tomorrow – February 2nd. The organization has been closed for the last week, while it moves into the recently completed 105,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse building on the northeast corner of 84th & L Streets. The food bank will officially open at the location on February 2. The building is 40 percent larger than the old one.

Darland Construction was the general contractor. The new facility offers expanded cold storage capabilities and a significantly larger Protein Repack Room, increasing its capacity to 4,300 sq. ft. – a 514 percent increase from the old space. This expansion will improve the Food Bank’s ability to serve 93 counties in Nebraska and western Iowa, enabling it to provide services to other food banks in the area.
