NP Dodge Unveils New Brand

NP Dodge Real Estate has unveiled a rebranded logo and new slogan, “Make It Possible.” The new message “encapsulates the belief in the power of real estate to change lives and the commitment to help agents, clients, and communities grow.” NP Dodge will celebrate its 170th anniversary next year and is the longest-running real estate company in the United States.

Rush Market Closing Oakview Store

Rush Market is closing its store at Oakview Mall. The non-traditional furniture retailer has occupied the former Younkers department store space since 2019. The retailer has hinted about a new location on its Facebook page but no announcements have been made.

Eppley Passenger Traffic Continues to Rise

As the Omaha Airport Authority moves full speed ahead on Eppley Airfield’s $950 million terminal expansion project, passenger traffic continues to rise. Eppley welcomed 420,432 passengers in September, up 3.4 percent from the same month a year ago. Year-to-date traffic is 3.91 million, which is up 6.4 percent over 2023.

Prehistoric Putt Opens November 1st

Prehistoric Putt plans to open November 1st in the former Nobbies building in Bel Air Plaza northwest of 120th & West Center Road. The space will feature four, 18-hole mini-golf courses with full-scale dinosaurs, an arcade, a virtual reality laser tag arena, party rooms and a kitchen and bar.

Eddie Bauer Closes One Pacific Place Store

Eddie Bauer, the Seattle based outdoor-recreational clothing chain, has closed its store at 10323 Pacific Street in the One Pacific Place center. The Eddie Bauer Outlet store at Nebraska Crossing in Gretna is the only surviving location in the state of Nebraska.

Olsson Breaks Ground on Future Office Building

Olsson, Applied Underwriters and Lanoha Real Estate Company held a ceremonial ground-breaking yesterday for Olsson’s 4-story, office building in The Row at Heartwood Preserve southwest of 144th & West Dodge Road. Olsson, an engineering and design firm, will house its 300-plus Omaha-area employees in the building when it’s complete in 2026. Additionally, two adjacent buildings — a multi-family residential building and a 4-star hotel — are in the design phase.

$2.5 Million Streetscape Project Planned for Blackstone District

U.S. Rep. Don Bacon, Mayor Jean Stothert and leaders of the Blackstone Business Improvement District last week announced the Harney Streetscape Plan, a $2.5 million project to upgrade Harney Street through Midtown. Plans call for wider sidewalks, reduced traffic speed, better traffic signals and a reduction from three lanes of traffic to two. The project received a $2 million Federal Community Funding Project grant and requires a $500,000 local match. The project will start and finish in 2027.

North Omaha Burger Restaurant Permanently Closing

Best Burger is closing its north Omaha location inside the Highlander Accelerator, a community food hall at 2112 North 30th Street, next to Big Mama’s Kitchen. Last day will be October 31st. The family-owned restaurant will focus on catering and its food trailer. – Nicole Buntgen

Mexican Restaurant Coming to 142nd & Fort

Signage is up for Casa Jalisco, a Mexican bar and grill, at 14242 Fort Street in Standing Bear Plaza near 144th & Fort. The family-owned restaurant is set to open this fall. – Nicole Buntgen

Goodwill Opens NW Omaha Location

Goodwill Industries, Inc., opened a new retail location last week at 18905 Evans Street. The 15,000 sq. ft. building includes the retail floor, drive-thru donation center, online pick-up and a community training room.

Southwest Plans Temporary Non-Stop Route to Columbus

Southwest Airlines is offering a temporary non-stop flight between Omaha’s Eppley Airfield and John Glenn Columbus International Airport just to serve Husker fans traveling to watch the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ football game versus The Ohio State Buckeyes. The non-stop flight will leave Omaha on Friday October 25 and return Sunday, October 27.

Coffee Shop Opening in La Vista

Las Chilenas, a coffee shop and bakery, plans to open soon at 8064 South 84th Street in La Vista. The business describes itself as having a “cozy atmosphere, delicious coffee options and a variety of desserts and empanadas that will delight your palate.”

Chick-fil-A Opens This Thursday on West Maple Road

The new Chick-fil-A restaurant at 156th & West Maple Road opens this Thursday. Grahm Talbitzer is the local franchise owner. Located next to Union Pizzeria, Chick-fil-A will be open for dine-in, carry-out and third-party delivery from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The drive-thru will remain open until 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It will be the seventh Chick-fil-A in the Omaha market.

Indoor Golf Business Opens in Gretna

Net Par, an indoor golf simulator and sports bar, has opened at 17809 Cypress Drive in Gretna near 180th & Highway 370. The venue opened its first Nebraska location last December in the Capitol District downtown. – Nicole Buntgen

Site-1 Brewing Teams Up with Backlot Taphouse

Barstow Hospitality Partners, owners of ACX Cinema and Backlot Taphouse, have invested in Site-1 Brewing, an awarding-winning brewery and taproom at 2566 Farnam Street. Backlot Taphouse now serves its signature Detroit-Style pizza at Site-1. Barstow Hospitality Partners now operates 56 movie screens and five restaurants in the greater Omaha region area plus Chicago, Milwaukee and Cincinnati.

Can Nebraska-Made Toilet Paper Be Cool?

Omaha-based nonprofit Outlook Nebraska, the state’s sole toilet paper manufacturer, is making waves as one of two finalists in the NE Manufacturing Alliance’s “Coolest Thing Made in Nebraska” contest. As the largest employer of blind and visually impaired individuals in a seven-state region, the nonprofit produces 25 miles of paper per minute, converting over 1.6 million pounds of 100% recycled fiber each month. – Darcie Dingman Willie

Board of Regents Take Next Step on Project Health

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved an amendment to the tri-party agreement between the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Kiewit Building Group and HDR Architecture regarding the massive Project Health development. The amendment increases some of the contract amounts, and more importantly, allows the parties to move forward to the validation phase. This phase of the project will establish an accurate estimation of the costs and scope. The Board also approved an auditing contract with KPMG for accounting services related to Project Health. Funding for this early phase of Project Health are derived strictly from donations, not allocated state or budgetary funding. – Isaiah Ang

Jams Old Market Temporarily Relocating

Jams Old Market at 1101 Harney Street is temporarily relocating just to the west to the former Mouth of the South location at 1111 Harney Street. The Jams space will undergo a HVAC renovation. That should be complete in November, at which time, Jams will go back to its normal space.

Dundee Restaurant Opens West Omaha Location

Good Lookin’ has opened its second location at 16920 Wright Plaza Suite 118 in
the Shops of Legacy. The breakfast-and-lunch café’s original location is in Dundee at 4919 Underwood Avenue. – Nicole Buntgen

New Private High School Opening in 2025

Omaha Christian Academy and Lifegate Christian School are joining forces to open a Christian high school in The Emerald Building at 2425 North 108th Street just southwest of Interstate 680 & West Maple Road. The schools also buying an adjoining 20 acres for athletic fields, according to Bill Black of NP Dodge, who represents the school. The new school should be open for the 2025 academic year with about 200 students, eventually growing to 600, staying a class B school.

Jewelry Store Opens Flagship Location

Gunderson’s Jewelers has opened its store at 102 North 145th Street in Heartwood Preserve. The 25,000 sq. ft. store is in a newly constructed building west of Charleston’s steakhouse in Heartwood Preserve. The Sioux City, Iowa-based retailer relocated the store from Village Pointe Shopping Center.

City Move Forward on North Omaha Trail

The Omaha City Council approved an ordinance allowing the city to purchase land for the Beltline Trail Project in North Omaha. The project is led by the Papio-Missouri River NRD. The phased project will eventually have a trailhead at Military Avenue & Hamilton Street and create a multimodal corridor north to the Metro North Omaha Transit Center. There the Beltline Trail will connect with the North Omaha Trail. The ordinance grants authority to the city to negotiate with property owners along Phase 3 of the project. If needed, the city is authorized to initiate condemnation actions to acquire the needed land. – Isaiah Ang

Asian Restaurant Replacing Koko’s Korean Fried Chickin

A company named Wukong Restaurant has registered with the state of Nebraska to open at 2571 South 177th Plaza, in the former Koko’s Korean Fried Chikin space near Super Target off 180th & West Center Road. The restaurant will serve hotpot, hibachi, poke bowls and desserts, with a tentative opening set for November.

Mouth of the South Closes Old Market Location

Mouth of the South, a local Southern and Cajun cuisine restaurant, has suddenly closed its Old Market location at 1111 Harney Street. The west Omaha location at 16909 Lakeside Hills Plaza, near 168th & West Center Road, will remain open. The restaurant recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. – Nicole Buntgen

East Coast Restaurant Opens First Midwest Location at Aksarben

Crispy Burger has opened next to Freezing Rolled Ice Cream at 1918 South 67th Street in Aksarben Village. While the restaurant serves burgers, it’s better known for its Asian fried chicken. This is the first location in the Midwest. All other Crispy Burger locations are in New York, Vermont and Virginia. According to the local owner, Crispy Burger is known for “its secret recipe featuring the crunchiest fried chicken in the world, a secret pickle flavor, crispy skin and tender, juicy meat.”

Izzy’s Pizza Cancels Plans for Bel Air Plaza Location

Izzy’s Pizza has pulled out of opening its second location at 2500 South 120th Street, which was set to open this fall, connected to the new Prehistoric Putt at Bel Air Plaza. Izzy’s plans to focus on its downtown spot at 522 South 24th Street and its mobile pizza bus.

Omaha is the seventh most competitive apartment rental market in America, according to the New York Times. A recent study ranked 137 U.S. rental markets based on competitiveness across five metrics. In Omaha, an average of 13 prospective renters compete for each available rental unit. Here are the top 10 markets: 1. Suburban Chicago; 2. Miami-Dade County; 3. Milwaukee; 4. Jones Bros Cupcakes Closes Aksarben Location

Jones Bros Cupcakes has closed its Aksarben Village location. The Westroads mall location will remain open, and the business will continue offering its our full catering menu. On its Facebook page, Jones Bros says it is planning to open a yet-to-be-announced new location in late 2025.

Pizza Place from Texas & Florida Opens in Papillion

Grace Pizza & Shakes has opened its first Nebraska location in downtown Papillion at 136 North Jefferson Street, inside the original 1875 county courthouse. The restaurant, which also has locations in Texas and Florida, specializes in coal-fired pizza and “over-the-top” milkshakes. – Nicole Buntgen

West Farnam Building Set to Open

GreenSlate Management announced that the 37 West Farnam Building under construction in the Blackstone District is set to open next spring. The company is now offering hard-had tours to prospective apartment renters. The 9-story building sits prominently along the south side of Farnam Street just west of the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel. The building will have street-level retail space, a parking garage open to the public and several floors of apartments.

The Planned “Intersections” Site Going Back to Industrial Use

A new industrial user is planning to utilize the former Scoular Grain and A&R Salvage property along the east side of Interstate 480. The 23-acre site is northeast of 28th & Deer Park Boulevard. In 2021, a developer announced ambitious plans to build “The Intersections,” a wellness and recreational center with a $100 million price tag. In 2022, the developer formally announced the project was not moving forward. The site is now planned to be the future location of Crushin’-IT, a concrete recycling business. Omaha Planning Board will review an application for a final plat of the property. – Isaiah Ang

City Plans to Build Parking Garage in Millwork Commons

The City of Omaha plans to build a 600-stall parking garage at Millwork Commons. The city council approved a resolution on consent agenda to allow for the project to be delivered by a construction manager at risk. The parking garage will be located just east of the Ashton building on a parcel bounded by 11th, 12th and Nicholas streets and Millwork Avenue. The estimated cost is $25 to $30 million. – Isaiah Ang

Sensory Suite Spot Opening Next Week

Sensory Suite Spot, Omaha’s first ability-inclusive hair salon, recently opened at 14216 Pierce Plaza just off 144th & Pacific Street in west Omaha. The salon suite caters to all abilities, with hair stylists specializing in sensory cuts. A ribbon cutting will take place on August 27th. – Nicole Buntgen

Indoor Play Park Now Open Near 180th & Harrison

Playful Pines indoor play park opened July 20th at 7051 South 181st Street. That’s just southwest of 180th & Harrison Street. The locally owned business offers two-hour, limited capacity play sessions for children age 7 and younger. Parents can sign up for a play session at PlayfulPines.com.

Dessert Shop Opens in Benson

Snowy Sundaes, a family-owned dessert shop, opened last week in Benson at 6015 Maple Street next to Ted & Wally’s. The shop specializes in Bingsu, a Korean-style shaved ice, and also offers bubble tea, takoyaki (a Japanese octopus snack), croffles (a croissant-waffle hybrid), and specialty “ice-cool” hotpot desserts available for dine-in. - Nicole Buntgen

Storm Debris Curbside Collection Now 37% Complete

The City of Omaha Public Works department estimates curbside collection of storm debris is now at about 37 percent complete. That's up from 22 percent last Monday. Al Veys Field at 6606 South 60th Street, will be open indefinitely for debris drop-off seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The other park locations have closed.

Upscale Cocktail Bar Opens in NW Omaha

The Dandy Lion, an upscale bar and lounge, opened earlier this month at 15475 Ruggles Street northeast of 156th & West Maple Road and next to Porky Butts. The business renovated the former Retro Rewind space and opens daily at noon. – Nicole Buntgen

Pedestrian Bridge Opens Over the Platte River

The $2.6 million Platte River pedestrian bridge opened in early August connecting Sarpy County and Cass County. The bridge runs adjacent to Highway 34/75 and connects Allied Road on the north side of the river near Falconwood Park to Beach Road on the south. The bridge trail is only pedestrian/bike crossing over the Platte River aside from the Lied Platte River Bridge nearly 16 miles west. – Isaiah Ang

Midtown Coffee Shop Prepares to Move West

Hay Jay Coffee, a drive-thru coffee shop, closed its Midtown location at 1416 North Saddle Creek Road yesterday. The business is moving to Bennington at 8001 North 157th Street Suite 101, where it will introduce an updated concept featuring a full coffee and café restaurant. What’s Under Construction at 216th & Capehart?

United Republic Bank started construction in mid-July on a branch office building at 12751 South 216th Plaza in Gretna. That’s on the northwest corner of Highway 6/31 & Capehart Road. When the building is complete next spring, it will be the bank’s second location. The main office is at 180th & Burke Street west of Village Pointe. Turner Construction is the general contractor, TACKarchitects did the design.
