Nebraska Has Fourth Lowest Rate of Adults Living with Parents

Thirty-three percent of U.S. adults, ages 18 to 34, live with their parents, according to Visual Capitalist. In Nebraska, it’s 20 percent. Only three states – North Dakota (12%), Wyoming (16%) and South Dakota (18%) – are lower. The highest states are New Jersey (44%), Connecticut (41%), California (39%) and Maryland (39%). Here are some states closer to home: Iowa (22%); Kansas (23%); and Missouri (27%).

NDOT Starts Interstate 680 Widening Project South of Dodge

The Nebraska Department of Transportation has started a project to widen a 1.49-mile stretch of Interstate 680 between Frances Street on the south and West Dodge Road on the north. Completion is planned for this November. The project will add an extra lane in both directions and make it possible to expand the I-680 & West Dodge Road interchange starting in 2028.

Perfume Palace Opens Second Westroads Mall Store

Perfume Palace has opened a second location within Westroads Mall. The first location is on the mall’s upper level near the H&M store. The second one is now open on the level one across from Victoria’s Secret and PINK.  Perfume Palace has several stores in Florida and a handful of them in the Midwest.

Jamaican-Style Food Truck Launching This Month

Jerk Makin Shack, a food truck inspired by traditional Jamaican cooking, plans to launch this month. The truck will operate throughout the metro area at local events, food truck gatherings and private catering opportunities. Locally owned by Shava Jackson, Jerk Makin Shack specializes in authentic Caribbean flavors, featuring jerk chicken, jerk pork, oxtails, Jamaican beef patties and coco bread.

Developer Plans Apartment Building at 76th & Pacific

Parkway Development Company plans to squeeze a 5-story, 34-unit apartment building onto a .48-acre site at 7630 Pacific Street. The property used to have a single-family residential building. The new apartment building will have 34 stalls in a first-floor parking garage. The Omaha Planning Board approved a planned unit redevelopment overlay and rezoning to accommodate the project. Parkway Development previously built the Swivel Apartments near 72nd & Dodge Street and the Centerline by 72nd & Center Street. – Isaiah Ang

Omaha Chef David Utterback Named James Beard Finalist

Omaha Chef David Utterback of Yoshitomo and Ota has been named one of five finalists for Best Chef: Midwest in the 2026 James Beard Awards, marking his second consecutive year as a finalist. Winners will be announced June 15 in Chicago.  – Nicole Buntgen

Penn Station East Coast Subs Restaurants Change Ownership

Local entrepreneurs Josh and Courtney Kenney have acquired the Omaha area locations of Penn Station East Coast Subs through their investment company, JCK Capital. Penn Station is known for grilled-to-order subs, hand-cut fries and freshly squeezed lemonade. The restaurants are located at 168th & West Center Road, 80th & Dodge Street and in Bellevue. The Kenneys are evaluating opportunities to add a fourth restaurant in Gretna within the next two years.

Omaha by Design Seeks Venue Applications for Open Omaha

Omaha by Design will host Open Omaha again this year on Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open Omaha is a one-day, all-access, city-wide open house. Featured venues are invited to show off their space to the public. Omaha by Design is now accepting venue applications HERE. Last year’s event garnered more than 10,000 venue visits.

The Breakfast Club Opening Soon in Aksarben Village

The Breakfast Club will open soon at 2121 South 67th Street in Aksarben Village, in the former Jones Bros. Cupcakes space. The Des Moines, Iowa-based breakfast concept has restaurants in Des Moines, West Des Moines and Ankeny and is currently hiring staff in Omaha. – Nicole Buntgen

New Lounge Opening Monday at Indian Creek Golf Course

Indian Creek Golf Course will open The Sand Room Monday, April 6th, on the lower level of its clubhouse near 202nd & West Maple Road. The lounge will offer food, drinks and golf simulators. The Sand Room has a “moody, speakeasy feel” and is available for walk-ins. The public golf course is open to anyone. The new lounge is part of a completely renovated clubhouse that will also include The Approach, a restaurant opening in late April on the upper level.

Creighton Mid-America Business Conditions Index Moves Up

The Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index, a leading economic indicator for the nine-state region stretching from Minnesota to Arkansas, moved above growth neutral for March to its highest level since March 2025.The index, which ranges between 0 and 100 with 50.0 representing growth neutral, increased to a solid 55.6 from 54.7 in February and a much weaker 49.6 in January, according to Dr. Ernie Goss, director of Creighton’s Economic Forecasting Group.

Nonprofit Plans to Build North Omaha Grocery Store

Heart Ministry Center plans to open a grocery store on a vacant lot southeast of 26th & Lake Street. Plans call for a 24,670 sq. ft. building that would house a full-service grocery store that would function as a “social enterprise,” providing jobs and affordable groceries and supplies to a neighborhood of nearly 50,000 people. The proposed project goes before the Omaha Planning Board today.

Amazing Pizza Machine Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary

The Amazing Pizza Machine is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this month. The indoor entertainment center and restaurant is located along Millard Avenue at 13955 S Plaza. The Amazing Pizza Machine offers more than 75 items on its buffet plus go carts, bumper cars, rides and other attractions.

Food Truck Sets Up Shop in Blackstone District

M&M Beef and Steak, a new food truck, has opened for business in the Blackstone District, serving cheesesteak and Italian beef. The truck is stationed outside Jay’s Beer Garden at 3724 Farnam Street and is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. M&M is locally owned by Brian Magarro and Joel Marsh, who also owns Noli’s Pizzeria.

Omaha’s First Women-Only Membership Club Opens Tomorrow

Legacy Collective will celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting tomorrow – April 1 – at 9 a.m. in Regency Landing at 10730 Pacific Street. Legacy Collective is Omaha’s first exclusive women-only membership club. According to a press release, “members will enjoy curated experiences, networking opportunities and amenities tailored to elevate both personal and professional growth.”

Lincoln Company Opening Omaha Office in North Downtown

A fast growing agtech startup from Lincoln plans to open an Omaha office in the Millwork Commons District. According to a building permit, Marble Technologies will occupy a 7,400 sq. ft. space in the Mastercraft Building at 1111 North 13th Street. The Mastercraft was one of the first anchors of the burgeoning Millwork Commons District, providing flexible office and light industrial space for more than 60 businesses and organizations. – Isaiah Ang

Council Bluffs to Purchase Land for River’s Edge Playground

The Council Bluffs City Council approved a land purchase from the Iowa Department of Roads to build a destination playground near River’s Edge. The site is south of the Interstate 480 overpass, just west of the River Park by Broadmoor apartment complex. Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact will pay the $70,000 price tag. The property will be owned by the city. Broadmoor will donate the remaining needed land. It’s part of River’s Edge phase V, which also includes a dog park and a plaza highlighting donor contributions. – Isaiah Ang

Dingman’s Collision Center Opens Gretna Location Monday

Dingman’s Collision Center plans to open a Gretna location on March 30 at 20227 Husker Drive in a recently constructed, 20,600 sq. ft. building just north of 202nd & Highway 370. Dingman’s has four existing locations at 120th & West Maple Road, 144th & Industrial Road, Midtown Omaha and downtown Papillion.

USA TODAY Ranks Lauritzen Gardens #3 in America

Omaha’s Lauritzen Gardens placed third in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards contest for “Best Botanical Garden.” Nominees for the category were submitted by a panel of experts, and Lauritzen Gardens was selected as one of 20 finalists from a national pool of garden nominations. Public voting narrowed the field to the top 10, with voting open from February 9 through March 9. In its second year as a nominee, the garden improved to a third-place finish after ranking fifth in 2025.

Council Bluffs Ensures Equitable Access to Riverfront Attractions

As the MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower, skywalk and pier at River’s Edge near completion, the City of Council Bluffs amended the license agreement between Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact and The Approach, LLC. The tower will have a climbing wall, roller glide and other amenities. The Approach agreed to work with non-profit organizations to help provide access to low-income families by having access days and free passes distributed through the Council Bluffs and Omaha public libraries. – Isaiah Ang

Anna’s Place Speakeasy Bar Moving to Old Market

Anna’s Place, a speakeasy cocktail bar, will move from its current location inside the Hotel Indigo at 18th & Dodge Street to the former Mouth of the South space in the Old Market. The move will be completed late this summer. Owner Devon Mundt said he’s moving because the new space at 1111 Harney Street will have better foot traffic and will allow him to increase seating from 30 to 50 people. The new Anna’s Place will also have room for a built-in waiting room. The eastern half of the old Mouth of the South space will be home to Sakura Ichiban Co. 

Omaha Chicken Co. Opens Along North 24th Street Corridor

Omaha Chicken Co. has opened for business at 2414 Patrick Avenue, along the North 24th Street Historic District. According to the restaurant’s social media, Omaha Chicken Co. specializes in “Midwest-style chicken.”

Le Voltaire Temporarily Closes for Remodeling

Le Voltaire, a French fine dining restaurant at 569 North 155th Plaza in Pepperwood Village, temporarily closed March 14 for remodeling and is set to reopen April 1. The restaurant, which opened in 2001, is marking its 25th anniversary this year. - Nicole Buntgen

Hello Garage plans to open a retail showroom in Elkhorn. According to a building permit, the garage renovation company will be located at 602 North 210th Street, south of the Union Bank & Trust Sports Complex. HOTWORX Building Out Space in Atlas Building

Interior build-out has started on a future HOTWORX yoga studio in a 2,400 sq. ft. space in the Atlas Apartments building at 30th & California Street. HOTWORX has more than 800 locations worldwide, including three existing ones in the Omaha Metro. The Atlas was formerly St. Joseph Hospital before NuStyle Development transformed it into a 732-unit apartment complex.

A Taste of New Orleans Selling Food Truck

Four Properties Available for Affordable Housing Development

Four properties in the Omaha Municipal Land Bank’s inventory are now available for affordable housing development. The north Omaha lots are part of the land bank’s Shovel-Ready Effort that supports the development of affordable housing units within qualified census tracts located in north and South Omaha. The effort eliminates barriers to construction by conducting site preparation work, grading land or replatting lots. The lots are at 3612 Grand Avenue, 4940 North 35th Street, 4931 North 35th Street and 3183 Grand Avenue. – Mark Champion

Flower Child Targets June Opening at Regency

Flower Child plans to open its first Nebraska location in late June at 120 Regency Parkway, on the north side of Regency Shopping Center. The restaurant is under construction in the parking lot northeast of Bonefish Grill and Borsheims. - Nicole Buntgen

Indoor Baseball Training Facility Coming to Valley

DC Diamond Training, an indoor baseball and softball training facility, plans to open by the end of this month at 123 East Gardiner Street in Valley. Founded by John Harvey and Chris Link, the business features three indoor batting cages and pitching tunnels, including one 60′ x 14′ cage with HitTrax, two additional fully netted tunnels, two Hack Attack pitching machines and a convertible 1,900 sq. ft. training space. DC Diamond will offer private lessons, facility rentals, clinics, camps and HitTrax leagues.

Stella’s Bar & Grill Reopens Temporarily in Bellevue

Stella’s Bar & Grill has temporarily reopened in the Bellevue Eagles Club at 209 West Mission Avenue, after a February fire at its original location. The family-owned restaurant is operating with a limited menu and cash-only service while working toward a consistent schedule. JD Sports Opening Store at Nebraska Crossing

JD Sports will open a store this spring at Nebraska Crossing in Gretna. Interior renovations are currently underway. The 5,500 sq. ft. space was formerly occupied by the Hanes Brands and is adjacent to Under Amour and Rally House. JD is a British multinational sports-fashion retailer with thousands of stores including an existing one at Westroads Mall.

Fast-Growing Kids’ Entertainment Franchise Coming to Omaha

Little Diggers, a children’s entertainment franchise, is partnering with Ben Steward, a DC West Middle School teacher, to open an Omaha location. The 1,200 sq. ft. play space is expected to open this fall at a yet-to-be-announced address. Little Diggers offers large, indoor sandboxes for kids to play. The Dublin, Ohio-based company started in 2023 and has 18 existing or coming-soon locations listed on its website.

Mutual of Omaha Tower Celebrates “Topping Out” Today

JE Dunn, general contractor for Mutual of Omaha’s downtown headquarters building, will hold a “topping-out” celebration today for the skyscraper under construction at 200 South 14th Street. Topping out occurs when the final steel beam is hoisted into place. The building will be completed late this year. All major concrete pours are done. The glass exterior curtain wall is completed through level 42. The building will be fully enclosed, and the tower crane will disassembled, this summer.  

Rich Movement Pilates Opens in North Downtown the session room

Rich Movement Pilates opened March 2nd at 816 North 14th Street in The Yard building in North Downtown. Locally owned by Sydney Richards, Rich Movement Pilates is a Reformer + Cadillac Pilates studio, which incorporates two pieces of Pilates equipment that use spring-based resistance to create a full-body, low-impact, high-intensity workout. The business is open seven days a week.

Children’s Physicians Closing Mission Village Location

Children’s Physicians – Mission Village is closing its office and clinic at 16909 Q Street, where it has operated for more than 25 years. The Mission Village team will move June 1st to Children’s new office at 20502 Roosevelt Street, which is northwest of 204th & Harrison Street.

Interior Build-Out Underway for Clio’s West Omaha Restaurant

Renovations are underway inside the former Blatt Beer and Table space at 2835 South 170th Plaza in the Shops of Legacy. That’s where Clio, the vert popular Mediterranean restaurant in the Old Market, plans to open a west Omaha location. Omaha-based Flagship Restaurant Group owns both Clio and Blatt Beer and Table. Clio is expected to open late this spring.

Westlake Ace Hardware Sets Grand Opening in Papillion

Westlake Ace Hardware will hold a grand opening and ribbon-cutting April 16 for its Papillion store at 7949 Towne Center Parkway in Shadow Lake Towne Center, in the former Best Buy space. Nebraska Breaks Venture Capital Investment Record in 2025

Nebraska reached an all-time high in venture capital investment in 2025, according to Invest Nebraska. Funding for startups totaled $527.9 million. The bulk came from $415 million to Lincoln-based CompanyCam. Silicon Prairie News outlined 2025’s top 10 venture capital rounds secured with three companies from Omaha: Bluestem Biosciences ($16 million); Upwell ($10.47 million); and Workshop ($7 million). – Isaiah Ang

Benjamin’s Neighborhood Kitchen Closes for Business

Only a couple months after opening, Benjamin’s Neighborhood Kitchen closed permanently this weekend. A sign on the front door says, “With heavy hearts, we want to share that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer able to continue operating.” Located at 3623 North 129th Street in Eagle Run Plaza, Benjamin’s replaced Copal Mexican Grill, which had been operating in the space.

National Hockey Retailer Moving from Ralston to NW Omaha

Pure Hockey is moving to west Omaha this summer. Currently located at 5413 South 72nd Street, the hockey equipment retailer will relocate to 14949 Evans Plaza in West Greyhawk near 144th & West Maple Road. Pure Hockey has more than 85 stores throughout the country with the Omaha location being the exclusive storefront in Nebraska. - Isaiah Ang
