Jersey Mike’s Opens in Westwood Plaza
Jersey Mike’s Subs opened earlier today in Westwood Plaza at 12327 West Center Road in the former Tide Dry Cleaners location. Tide Dry Cleaners had previously moved next door. Jersey Mike’s has six previously existing Omaha-area locations.
WheatFields Express Opens Today
WheatFields Express opened for business this morning at 18902 Evans Street. That’s in an end-cap space on the south side of West Maple Road. This second location features a drive-thru lane and a self-serve, grab-and-go section. The store offers quiche, soups, sandwiches and bakery items. The original Wheatfield’s restaurant is in One Pacific Place near 103rd & Pacific Street.
Developer Plans Residential Construction at 28th & Charles
A developer has plans for five vacant lots at 28th & Charles Street in north Omaha. On the south side of the street, plans call for a two-unit, side-by-side townhouse building for rent. Each unit will be 2,000 sq. ft. and will rent for $2,200 per month. On the north lots, two 1,700 sq. ft., single family houses will be available to rent for $1,800 per month. Each residential unit will have 3-bedrooms. The developer is seeking $240,000 in Tax Increment Financing for the $1.6 million project. – Isaiah Ang
Orthodontics Practice Coming to Gretna This Fall
Platte River Orthodontics plans to open a practice at 11844 Standing Stone Drive, Suite 120, in Gretna, according to Will Schneidewind of NAI NP Dodge, who represents the building’s landlord. Opening is planned for October. The 2,454 sq. ft. space was previously occupied by Nexus Vision. The practice is owned by Dr. Chad Carter.
Godega Market Opens in Aksarben Village
Godega Market opened its second location late last week in Aksarben Village. The locally owned coffee shop and convenience market now occupies the former Zoup space on the ground floor of HDR’s global headquarters building at 1917 South 67th Street. Godega Market’s original location is at 423 South 11th Street in the Old Market.
Mercy Thai Opens Second Omaha Restaurant
Mercy Thai opened a second Omaha restaurant today at 7622 Dodge Street in the former La Guanaca space. The original location is at 4741 South 96th Street on the southeast corner of 96th & L Street. The locally owned Thai restaurant serves lunch and dinner six days a week. Mercy Thai is not affiliated with the Council Bluffs restaurant of the same name.
Buvette Delicatessen Consolidates into La Buvette Wine & Grocery
Vera Mercer, owner of La Buvette Wine & Grocery in the Old Market, has closed Buvette Delicatessen, a related business next door. La Buvette is at 511 South 11th Street, while Buvette Delicatessen, formerly known as Mercer & Sons Deli, operated at 509 South 11th Street until it closed last week. The former deli space will become an extension of La Buvette, where most of the deli menu items will still be available. A majority of the deli employees will still work at La Buvette.
Townhomes to Join New Apartment Building on Park Avenue
The southeast corner of Poppleton and Park avenues will be home to for-rent townhomes. We recently reported that developer, inCOMMON, had broken ground on an adjacent lot for a 51-unit apartment building. According to a TIF application, inCommon also plans to build a $3.3 million, seven-townhome building, using a $217,000 TIF loan. Each 2-story, 3-bedroom townhome will be 1,152 sq. ft. and cost between $1,600 to $1,800 to rent. Two of the units are reserved for households making at or below 80 percent of the area median income. The other five are reserved for households making at or below 120 percent. Construction will start this fall and be completed in late 2026. – Isaiah Ang
Mid-America Manufacturing Growth Slows But Remains Positive
The Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index, a leading economic indicator for the nine-state region stretching from Minnesota to Arkansas, moved above the 50.0 growth neutral threshold for a fifth straight month. The index declined to 51.0 from April’s higher 53.3. Approximately, 34.8 percent of supply managers reported switching suppliers due to tariffs, both proposed and implemented.
ACE Pickleball Club Opens in Omaha
Nebraska’s first ACE Pickleball Club has opened at 13423 F Street. The business offers 13 courts with 26-foot ceiling heights. The Georgia-based company was founded in 2022 and now has 20 locations in 13 states with several more coming soon.
Coneflower Creamery Opens in Olde Town Elkhorn
Coneflower Creamery has officially opened its third location at 2625 North Main Street in Olde Town Elkhorn. The nationally recognized “farm-to-cone” ice cream shop also operates in the Blackstone District and Millwork Commons. – Nicole Buntgen
City of Omaha Makes Progress on Comprehensive Plan
The City of Omaha continues to work on its updated comprehensive plan, named “We Make Omaha.” After extensive public engagement, the city drafted several guiding principals, which address areas of safety, affordability, sustainability, connectivity and diversity. The plan will determine future land use policy, infill strategies and establish goals for future development over the next 20 years. The city plans to complete the plan by early 2027. – Isaiah Ang
Get Real Sandwiches Closing in Blackstone
Get Real Sandwiches will permanently close June 8 at 3901 Farnam Street in the Blackstone District. The artisanal sandwich shop opened in March 2022 and is known for its locally sourced ingredients, breakfast items, soups, salads and cocktails. – Nicole Buntgen
UNO Plans to Expand Biomechanics Research Building
UNO held a groundbreaking last week for a $17.1 million addition to its Biomechanics Research Building. The principal benefactor is Ruth Scott and the William and Ruth Scott Family Foundation. The 3-story addition will add 19,000 sq. ft. to the east end of the existing building and will include laboratory, instructional and office spaces when it opens in 2028. Additionally, it will be home to the Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics, which was established in 2024 with a grant from the National Institutes of Health. The Biomechanics Research Building was the first in the world dedicated to the field of study when it was built in 2013. – Isaiah Ang
BT Party Cove Opening in Downtown Springfield
BT Party Cove, a new private event venue, will open in June at 166 South 2nd Street in downtown Springfield. The space includes indoor and outdoor seating, a full bar, DJ and sound system setup, and can accommodate up to 120 guests. A grand opening will take place June 6 at 4 p.m. – Nicole Buntgen
Former Potato Chip Factory Becomes Co-Working & Studio Space
Local businessman Bob Pelshaw is converting the former Kitty Clover potato chip factory in South Omaha into Clover 24, a venue for artists and entrepreneurs, according to WOWT. Located on the northwest corner of 24th & Martha Street, Clover 24 will offer studios for artists and co-working space for entrepreneurs.
City of Omaha Prepares to Add 3,558 New Residents
The City of Omaha plans to add 3,558 people and 1,438 acres in its 2025 Annexation Package. A large majority of the annexation includes Flanagan Lake and surrounding areas, encompassing SID 427 and includes the Stone Creek and Copper Ridge subdivisions. The annexation package include a couple lots in West Hampton Park near 204th & Blondo Parkway, the 5th floor condominiums on the top of the Aloft Hotel at 180th & Burke Street and Center Ridge subdivision at 192nd & West Center Road. The package will go through the review process, beginning with the Omaha Planning Board next week. – Isaiah Ang
Three Local Orangetheory Fitness Clubs Change Ownership
Three of Omaha’s five Orangetheory Fitness locations have changed ownership. Jeff Lorenz, who has owned both of Lincoln’s Orangetheory locations for the past seven years, purchased three Omaha franchises from his family members this past April. The three locations are at 159 North 78th Street, 16909 Burke Street and 14450 Eagle Run Drive. Lorenz is offering former members and new members limited time grand re-opening rates. Based in Florida, Orangetheory Fitness has approximately 1,500 locations worldwide.
The Bread Barn Opens Self-Serve Farmstand in Papillion
The Bread Barn recently opened at 6401 Capehart Road in Papillion. The local farmstand operates Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until sold out. It offers sourdough bread, eggs, cakes and cookies through a self-serve system that accepts cash, Venmo and PayPal. – Nicole Buntgen
Curry in a Hurry Reopening in Former Lutfi’s Building
Curry in a Hurry, a quick-serve Indian restaurant, plans to reopen in the former Lutfi’s Fried Fish location at 2527 North 72nd Street. Renovations are underway inside the 1,072 sq. ft. building, and opening is expected to take place early this summer. In the meantime, Curry in a Hurry is serving customers from a food truck. The original Curry in a Hurry was at 8303 Maple Street and closed back in March.

Revival House Cocktail Bar Coming to Blackstone
Revival House, a cocktail bar owned by Omaha-based Flagship Restaurant Group, is set to open in mid-to-late-June at 3737 Farnam Street in the Blackstone District. Described as “a world of its own—a fever dream brought to life, with better booze,” the concept has an existing location in Des Moines, Iowa. Ariat Plans to Open Nebraska Crossing Store in July
Ariat plans to open a store at Nebraska Crossing this July in an 8,800 sq. ft. space between YETI and Athleta. Opening is planned for mid-July. Based in San Leandro, Calif., Ariat is an apparel, footwear and accessories retailer that focuses on equestrian, outdoor and work styles. The company’s name is inspired by Secretariat, the legendary racehorse and 1973 Triple Crown winner with a heart almost three times the size of an average thoroughbred.
Local Burger Detour Locations Listed for Sale
Burger Detour, a locally owned burger restaurant, has listed its buildings for sale or lease at 18308 Evans Street (near 180th & West Maple Road) and 1220 South 203rd Street (just south of Pacific Street), according to real estate listing announcements by ACCESS Commercial. A future location at 120th & L Street is also listed for sale. It appears as if Burger Detour remains open.
Kona Grill Permanently Closes at Village Pointe
Kona Grill is the latest restaurant to close at Village Pointe. Yesterday was the last day for the long-time restaurant at 295 North 170th Street. Other Village Pointe restaurants that closed recently include Paradise Bakery & Café, Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, Local Beer Patio & Kitchen and Bravo! Several new restaurants have opened or announced openings in the shopping center including Meddys, Early Bird, North Italia and Kpot.
Hideaway Lounge Under New Ownership
The Hideaway Lounge at 3030 South 203rd Street is under new ownership and will hold a grand re-opening party Friday, June 6 at 6 p.m. Eric Peel and Alyssa Boyd recently purchased the business from Brian Shoup. The bar’s name will remain the same. Located southeast of 204th & West Center Road, Hideaway Lounge serves high-end cocktails and originally opened in February 2023.
Catalyst Ribbon Cutting Takes Place This Afternoon
State, local and university leaders will celebrate a ribbon cutting today at 3 p.m. to officially open Catalyst, the first building in the EDGE District, located west of the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus. The 170,000 sq. ft. building emerged from the renovation of the 1906 Omaha Steel Castings building. Developed by Koelbel & Co. and GreenSlate Development, “Catalyst will facilitate the growth of research and innovation and allow entrepreneurs, investors and businesses to collaborate in industrial tract.”
The Brunch Box Opening Oakview Location Next Week
The Brunch Box, a breakfast-and-lunch restaurant in downtown’s Capitol District, will open its second location in the Oak View Mall Food Court early next week. The new restaurant will have a limited menu available Sunday, June 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. The full menu will be available starting Monday, June 2nd. The summer hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The Pie Fairy Finds New Home in Barnato’s Kitchen
The Pie Fairy, a local bakery specializing in pies and sweets, is now operating out of Barnato’s kitchen at 225 North 170th Street in Village Pointe. Orders are available for pickup or delivery with advance notice via social media. The bakery previously operated out of Green Line Cafe and other shared kitchens. – Nicole Buntgen
Childcare Center Opens at 142nd & Q Street
Little Explorers Childhood Enrichment Center has opened at 14245 Q Street. Locally owned by Tabitha and Justin Bauer, the licensed childcare center serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. An official ribbon cutting event is planned for June 3rd at 12 noon.
Dave’s Hot Chicken Opening West Omaha Location This Week
Dave’s Hot Chicken will officially open a second Omaha location, Friday, May 30, at 2615 South 180th Street. The 4,088 sq. ft. building was most recently home to Voo Doo Taco and Jones Bros. Cupcakes before that. Dave’s Hot Chicken’s only existing Nebraska location is at 335 North Saddle Creek Road. The Los Angeles-based chain of Nashville-style chicken restaurants has 258 locations in 36 states and five countries.
Sushi Restaurant Taking Over Former Greenbelly Space
TOMO Sushi & Ramen has opened at 210 North 114th Street in the former Greenbelly space. The restaurant serves traditional Japanese dishes, sushi, sashimi and ramen. First online orders of $20 or more come with a free appetizer. - Nicole Buntgen
Smokin Barrel BBQ Signs Lease for New Location
Smokin Barrel BBQ has signed a lease at 2457 South 132nd Street, just east of Fazoli’s near 132nd & West Center. The local BBQ spot is relocating from 13508 Discovery Drive and said it will share more details soon. - Nicole Buntgen
Former South O Church Becomes Child Care Center
Patty’s Childcare Center is opening in the former St. Rose Catholic Church building at 4110 South 13th Street on a 2-acre site just a few blocks south of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. The 12,000 sq. ft. building went through a $4 million renovation that included adding an additional interior floor and elevator.
Lauritzen Gardens Opening $13 Million Play Garden
Lauritzen Gardens will celebrate the grand opening of Sophia’s Play Garden on May 26. The new play area is located just outside of the Visitor and Education Center. The botanical garden broke ground on the project in 2022. The $13 million, donor-funded project offers a variety of interactive, horticulture-related activities and play areas. The attraction is named in honor of the daughter of donors Polina and Bob Schlott. - Isaiah Ang

Arts Organization Holds Ribbon Cutting on North 24th Street
North Omaha Music and Arts held a ribbon cutting ceremony last week to showcase new renovations and additions to their music program at 2510 North 24th Street. The leading-edge space is meant to accommodate the needs of quality music and arts education for the youth of the community. NOMA’s growth and building renovation are an integral part of an overall plan to reinvigorate the North 24th Street corridor. – Joe Champion
Combination Coffee Shop & Art Gallery Coming to Downtown Elkhorn
Cedar Creek Coffee & Art has started building out its future space at 20603 Elkhorn Drive in Olde Town Elkhorn. Opening is scheduled for September. The space is in a newly constructed, 3-story building. The specialty coffee shop will be a multi-roaster concept, carrying coffees from roasters all over the country. The space will have a stage for live jazz, an art gallery and a resident ceramicist studio program with the ceramics studio viewable from the coffee shop space.
Taqueria Opens in a Retail Strip at 84th & Q
Taqueria 84 Tacos Burritos Y Mas opened last week at 8406 Q Street in a former cake bakery space. From the same owner as Bomb Taco, Taqueria 84 serves eight varieties of tacos and nine burritos as well as a wide selection of quesadillas and beverages.
Nebraska Becomes Sixth State to Ban Lab-Grown Meat
Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen today signed a lab-grown meat ban into law, making Nebraska the sixth state to do so, according to the Center for the Environment and Welfare, one of the leading critics of lab-grown meat. Nebraska joins Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Montana and Indiana as the states that have enacted bans on lab-grown meat.
