Wellness Center Coming to Avenue One Good Life District
Plans call for a wellness center will be built at 19303 South HWS Cleveland Boulevard in the Avenue One development. That’s near 192nd & West Dodge Expressway. According to a building permit, the 15,000 sq. ft., 2-story medical building, the business’ name is Aviva. We could not find additional information regarding this business but will provide updates as information becomes available. – Isaiah Ang
New Documentary Provides Inside Look at Boys Town
A new documentary called “Blue Baby” offers a candid look into Boys Town and the work being done there. The film takes audiences into one of the homes at Boys Town and follows eight boys through their highest highs and lowest lows. “Blue Baby” is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. – Mark Champion
Dundee Bank Breaks Ground on Regency Branch
Dundee Bank held a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week for its branch office under development at Regency Landing northeast of Interstate 80 & Pacific Street. The bank has existing offices in Dundee, Blackstone, Benson and Little Bohemia.
20 Percent of Condos Pre-Sold at Heartwood Preserve
Raymond Partners, an Arizona-based real estate developer, has sold more than 20 percent of the 35 condo units planned for first phase of its west Omaha condo project. The Residences at Heartwood Preserve will be a luxury condo development, consisting of three, 6-story buildings in the 500-acre Heartwood Preserve development southwest of 144th & West Dodge Road. The first building, phase one, is slated to open in the fall of 2028.
South Omaha Center Undergoing $10 Million Expansion
The Latino Center of the Midlands is undergoing a $10 million renovation and expansion. The project was kickstarted by a $2.8 million award from the State of Nebraska’s North and South Omaha Recovery Grant Program and is scheduled to be completed in early 2027. Once finished, the center will go from 17,000 to 29,000 sq. ft. The Latino center expansion was part of a bundle of South Omaha projects submitted in an application led by nonprofit Canopy South. – Mark Champion
Omaha Restaurant to Be Featured on America’s Best Restaurants
Hydes Slydes, an Omaha burger-and-fry concept that grew from a food truck into two brick-and-mortar stores, will be spotlighted on the YouTube show America’s Best Restaurants. The episode is expected to air in February and will feature the 16859 Q Street location near 168th & Q. Hydes Slydes also operates inside The Grover Inn near 42nd & Grover. – Nicole Buntgen
Kansas City Restaurant to Open in Former Spirit World Space
Red Door Woodfired Grill plans to take over the former Spirit World store in Aksarben Village. The 8,000 sq. ft., corner space is located at 6680 Center Street. Opening is planned for the second quarter of 2026. Red Door Woodfired Grill has six Kansas City locations and is known for its scratch-made food and signature smoky pecan, oak and hickory blend. The company also plans to open a restaurant in Gretna.
Panorama Wellness Production Closes Permanently
Panorama Wellness Production, formerly Eat-Fit-Go, is closing, according to The Auction Mill, which is liquidating all business assets from the company’s production facility. Panorama Wellness Production operated a 25,000 sq. ft. facility, making vacuum-sealed meals that were shipped nationwide. The auction will include restaurant and mass food production equipment as well as office equipment and furniture. Bidding will close in late November.
Nebraska Cancer Specialists to Be Part of Bryan Eklhorn Campus
Nebraska Cancer Specialists plans to open a full-service clinic at the recently announced Bryan Elkhorn Campus to be built southwest of 204th & West Center Road. The 10,000 sq. ft. clinic will be Nebraska Cancer Specialists’ sixth Omaha-are location and 16th location in Nebraska and Iowa. Phase I of the Bryan Elkhorn campus will include two medical buildings totaling 137,000 sq. ft. The clinic is expected to open in 2027.
Grand Patisserie Plans to Open Aksarben Location
Grand Patisserie, a popular French bakery at 14451 West Center Road, plans to open an additional location in Aksarben Village by the end of this year. Grand Patisserie is taking the 2,800 sq. ft. space formerly occupied by Rexius Nutrition at 2283 South 67th Street. Rexius had previously moved around the corner to 6464 Center Street.
Kids Play Cafe Opens Next Week in Downtown Gretna
Wander + Wonder Kids Play Café will hold a ribbon-cutting Monday, November 3rd at 9:30 a.m. at 120 North McKenna Avenue in downtown Gretna. The business will have a full-service barista serving beverages and food items and a “thoughtfully designed play area for independent and imaginative play.”
Trinity Financial Group Purchases American National Building
Trinity Financial Group has purchased the American National Bank building at 7921 Dodge Street for $1.8 million. The bank plans to vacate the 4,856 sq. ft. building at the end of this year. At that time, the building’s exterior and interior will undergo extensive renovations with completion planned for July 1st. Trinity will relocate from its current office at 13520 California Street.
Demolition Makes Way for Parking Garage in Millwork Commons
Crews are demolishing a small industrial building in Millwork Commons to make way for a City of Omaha-owned, 600-stall parking garage. The block is bounded by 11th, 12th and Nicholas streets as well as Millwork Avenue. The city recently purchased the ground for $600,000. The $25 million garage is scheduled for completion about a year from now.
Home Goods Store Taking Over Former Book Store in Aksarben
Marigold’s Mercantile, a home goods store, will take over the former Book Nook space in Aksarben Village. Opening is planned for January. The 1,500 sq. ft. space is at 2115 South 67th Street next to Godfather’s Pizza.
Millard Public Schools Activity Center Adding eSports Room
The Millard Public Schools Foundation is raising money to create an eSports room inside the new GreenState Millard Activity Center, which is being built on a 40-acre site just west of 204th and Q Street. The room will house 16 eSports stations complete with desks and headsets. – Mark Champion
Scooter’s Coffee Closing Pacific Street Location
Scooter’s Coffee at 1209 South 119th Street will close permanently on October 28. The location will remain open until 7 p.m. that day. Omaha-based Scooter’s Coffee has more than 850 locations nationwide. – Nicole Buntgen
Omaha Streetcar Authority Approves Amended Contracts
The Omaha Streetcar Authority Board this week amended several contracts related to final design and mainline construction. OSA amended its contract with Alfred Benesch & Co., increasing the contract cost by $6.7 million for construction engineering services for the Harney Street Bridge project. Jacobs Project Management Co. will provide additional engineering services and serve as owner’s representative for mainline construction for an additional $6.7 million. HDR’s contract was amended to add $6.5 million for additional design and engineering services. The amendments are within the budget for professional services. The $440 million streetcar line is anticipated to open in September 2028. – Isaiah Ang
New Restaurant Under Construction at Regency Court
A building permit has been filed for Prestige Flower Child, a health-conscious restaurant chain, at 120 Regency Parkway on the north side of Regency Shopping Center. Construction has started in the parking lot northeast of Bonefish Grill and Borsheim’s. The 5,002 sq. ft., one-story structural steel frame building will include a commercial kitchen and covered outdoor patio dining. – Nicole Buntgen
KMR Fusion & Sushi Bar Coming to North Downtown
KMR Fusion & Sushi Bar is coming soon to 906 North 16th Street, Suite B, just west of the Tip Top Apartments and next to Elie’s Chinchorro. An opening date has yet to be announced. The business previously appeared in property listings as Umphium Fusion & Sushi Bar. – Nicole Buntgen
Different Swim School to Take Over Former Little Waves Space
Aqua-Tots Swim Schools plans to replace Little Waves Family Swim School at 17602 Wright Street in Legacy Village. Aqua-Tots has a current location near 144th & Fort Street. According to a building permit, the pool facilities will largely remain, while the lobby and bathrooms will be renovated. – Isaiah Ang

Scoular Founder Marshall Faith Dies at 96
Marshall Faith, founder of Scoular, passed away Monday at age 96. Faith purchased a majority interest in Scoular-Bishop Grain in 1967. He would go on to grow Omaha-based Scoular into a global agribusiness, serving as CEO for 23 years and chairman for 25 years. At the time of his passing, Faith was chairman emeritus. Scoular is a top 100 U.S. privately held company. Marshall was a longtime civic leader, serving on boards of Joslyn Art Museum, United Way of the Midlands, Creighton University and others.
Pint 9 Brewing Company Expanding Event Space
Pint 9 Brewing Company at 10411 Port Road in Papillion has begun construction on an expansion into the adjacent bay to add a larger event space and additional storage. The project, called The Room at Pint 9 Brewing Co., will expand the brewery’s private party capacity and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. - Nicole Buntgen
Burning Bridges Closing West Omaha Location
Burning Bridges will close its brick-and-mortar restaurant at 14544 West Center Road in Harvey Oaks Plaza. The location opened on December 13, 2023, in the former Sinful Burger space. Super 8 on West Dodge Road Switches to Days Inn
The Super 8 hotel at 11610 West Dodge Road has converted to Days Inn by Wyndham Omaha. The official brand transfer date was September 25. The 98-room hotel underwent a complete building renovation.
NAPA Auto Parts Plans Additional Omaha Store
NAPA Auto Parts plans to open a store at 11718 Stonegate Circle. The building is just south of Mulhall’s Nursery. According to a building permit to renovate an existing space, the 9,600 sq. ft. project will cost a little over $100,000. NAPA currently has four area locations. - Isaiah Ang
Bellevue City Council Approves Public Improvements
The Bellevue City Council approved a $35 million bond to fund several public improvement projects next year, including trails and facility improvements at several parks, infrastructure maintenance and repair and projects in the city’s entertainment district. The latter includes a $10 million walkway project.
Build-to-Rent Neighborhood Planned for Gretna
Metonic, an Omaha-based real estate developer, held a groundbreaking last week for The Collection at Gretna Landing, a build-to-rent development with 110 freestanding homes at 19817 Ridgemont Street. The project is located within the Gretna Landing development northwest of 192nd & Highway 370. The development will include a mix of two- and three-bedroom cottages, alongside three- and four-bedroom houses with attached garages.
Cunningham’s Ends Sunday Hours
Cunningham’s Pub & Grill will no longer be open on Sundays at either of its locations due to rising costs of NFL Sunday Ticket, according to owner Derek Richards. The local pub operates locations in Blackstone at 3814 Farnam Street and 10904 West Dodge Road. - Nicole Buntgen
Club Pilates to Open Gretna Studio November 17
Club Pilates announced that its fifth Omaha-area location will open Monday, November 17 in Gretna at 18870 Oakmont Drive, Suite 10. That’s just east of the Hy-Vee store in a retail strip that’s also home to Bisou Nail Spa and Aspen Creek Veterinary Clinic. Club Pilates offers low-impact, full-body Reformer Pilates workouts designed for all fitness levels.
Three New Hangars Planned at Eppley Airfield
All Purpose Construction, an Omaha-based commercial construction company, plans to build three hangers at Eppley Airfield. According to a building permit, the hangers total 74,000 sq. ft. and will cost $3.76 million to construct.
Mai Thai Aksarben Restaurant Reopens as Mai Thai Cuisine
Mai Thai Cuisine has opened in the former Mai Thai restaurant space in Aksarben Village. The Thai restaurant is located at 2279 South 67th Street. The new owners have extensively renovated the space.
Backswing Brewing to Close Omaha Taproom
After four years, Backswing Brewing Co. announced it will not renew its lease and will close its Omaha taproom at 3669 North 129th Street on October 31. The Lincoln brewery at 500 West South Street will remain open. Backswing beers will continue to be sold across Nebraska. - Nicole Buntgen

Tommy’s Express Car Wash has a building permit for a location at 8425 West Center Road. It will be constructed on a pad site in front of the Goodwill retail store. Riddle’s Jewelry to Open Papillion Store in November
Riddle’s Jewelry plans to hold a ribbon cutting for its Shadow Lake Towne Center store on November 7th at 3 p.m. The Rapid City, S.D.-based retailer has more than 60 stores in 10 states, including one at Westroads Mall. The company also plans to open a store at Village Pointe.
HomeGoods & Sierra Opening This Month in Council Bluffs
Sierra, formerly known as Sierra Trading Post, is expected to open on October 23 at 3145 Manawa Centre Drive in Lake Manawa Power Centre. Part of the TJ Maxx Family of Brands, the outdoor recreation retailer offers apparel, footwear and gear for active and outdoor lifestyles. This will be Sierra’s fourth Iowa location—it already operates stores in Omaha and Lincoln. A HomeGoods store next door will open on the same day. North Downtown Event Space to Open in January
The Scene Event Space will open in January 2026 at 745 North 14th Street in the former Urban Outfitters location in the Builder’s District. The 2-story, 8,500 sq. ft. venue sits between Rally Coffee and Slowdown. The owners also operate Salon for Women, which has been in business for 10 years at Lakeside Hills Plaza.
Regional Rural Economy Falls to Five-Year Low
For the eighth time in 2025, Creighton University’s Rural Mainstreet Index sank below growth neutral. The index is based on a monthly survey of bank CEOs in rural areas of a 10-state region dependent on agriculture and energy. The region’s overall reading for October fell to 34.6, its lowest level since May 2020, from 38.5 in September. The index ranges between 0 and 100, with a reading of 50.0 representing growth neutral.
Omaha Winter Market Moves to Fowling Warehouse
The Omaha Winter Market will operate weekly this year, starting November 2nd and extending into March. The market also announced its permanent home will be inside Fowling Warehouse at 5585 North 90th Street. The Omaha Winter Market will have more than 50 local vendors each week, selling consumables, crafts and boutique goods.
North Italia Now Hiring for Village Pointe Restaurant
North Italia has started hiring for its new restaurant at Village Pointe and is hosting an on-going, on-site job fair each day through November 2nd. North Italia will open its first Nebraska location November 19th in a 9,000 sq. ft. space formerly occupied by Bravo Cucina Italiana. The restaurant serves handmade pasta, pizza and other dishes. North Italia has 39 locations in 13 states. The closest existing ones are in Kansas City and Denver.
HDR Provides Design Services for Pittsburgh International Airport
Omaha-based HDR was part of the design team for Pittsburgh International Airport’s $1.7 billion terminal expansion. HDR joined Gensler, in association with luis vidal + architects, to form the architectural and engineering design team. HDR led the surface access, site, airfield and infrastructure design. The design features additional space for concessions, an expanded TSA checkpoint and separate levels for departing and arriving passengers. More than 6,000 additional parking spaces, featuring a 3,300-space garage and a 2,700-space surface lot, were added.
