Crews started disassembling the 180-foot-tall tower crane that has been used to build Omaha’s future Central Library at 72nd & Dodge Street. The Liebherr 470 EC-B 16 Tower Crane could lift 35,000 pounds and had a jib length of 221 feet. Now that all the structural steel and major exterior pieces are in place, the tower crane is no longer needed. The said, there’s still much work to be done on the $150 million, 3-level, 96,000 sq. ft. library and opening isn’t scheduled until 2026.
