The March 5th Arts & Culture Report
Holland Performing Arts Center will feature Margre Durham’s Concert for Youth performing with Omaha Symphony from March 4 through 6. This interactive concert invites hundreds of elementary students to participate in immersive and engaging musical performances and educational opportunities. Through the Link Up curriculum, students will sing, play and move along with the orchestra, building musical skills while exploring music and movements of Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean. Opera Omaha will perform at the Joslyn Castle Carriage House for an opening reception celebrating the exhibition “Ancient, Mythic, Heroic” on March 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. Presented alongside the opera “Hercules”, the exhibit explores the power of myth and storytelling through images and sculpture. Some works focus on physical strength or symbolic power. The exhibit will be shown from March 6 through March 16. For more information, visit their website.
Omaha’s ANCHONDO will perform the Sublime Tribute Show featuring Amy by Aly on April 11 at 8 p.m. at the Slowdown venue at 729 North 14th Street. Back by popular demand, ANCHONDO will play a special performance in tribute to Sublime, the legendary California rockers from the late 80s to the mid 90s, with covered hits such as “What I Got”, “Santeria” and “Doin’ Time”. Amy by Aly will be featured as a guest, who plays tribute to Amy Winehouse. Formed in 2001, ANCHONDO is led by Hector Anchondo, and won first place for solo/duo performance at the 35th Annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. Great Plains Theater Commons (GPTC) has announced playwrights participating in the New Play Festival’s 2026 PlayLab program which will occur May 24 through 30. Playwrights were chosen from a pool of more than 750 anonymous submissions. Each one will work on their projects with a creative team, including a director, designer, dramaturg and cast composed of local and national talent. Each lab will culminate in a free staged reading, after which the playwrights will receive feedback from other top national playwrights, dramaturgs, designers and public audiences. All public events at the Festival are free and open to the public. The 2026 New Play Festival Final Selection Panel was composed of Dr. Martine Kei Green-Rogers, Dr. Samuel Yates and Alex Vermillion.

The Lied Center For Performing Arts in Lincoln will present Meredith Willson’s The Music Man on March 5 through 8. This six-time, Tony Award-winning comedy musical follows a fast-talking salesman trying to con the people of River City, but ends up falling for a beautiful librarian and transforms into a respectable citizen. The show is produced by Omaha-native Debbie Denenberg, who’s produced many shows such as The Woods, Guys and Dolls and The Who’s Tommy. Tickets on sale now. For more information, visit here.
The February 26th Arts & Culture Report
The Omaha Symphony will present Cirque Carmen on March 7 at the Holland Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. The sSymphony, conducted by Ernest Richardson, will perform the classic opera score Carmen by French composer Georges Bizet as the acrobats and dancers of Troupe Vertigo embark on an adventure of beauty, amazement and humor. The LA-based circus company creates a refreshing and mesmerizing mix of circus, dance and theater, bringing audiences on a spellbinding journey through the artistic movement. Tickets start at $26.
Omaha Conservatory of Music will feature The Yale Spizzwinks on March 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Composed entirely of Yale undergraduates, this a cappella group is America’s oldest underclassmen group, entertaining audiences since 1914. As part of their spring tour, they will be performing in Omaha, which is one of the members – Eshaan Giri’s hometown. Admission starts at $25, and free for kids 10 and under. The English Concert returns to Opera Omaha to perform Handel’s Hercules on March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theater. The Baroque orchestra is currently on their annual U.S. tour, known for performing with historically accurate instruments and their world-known quality performances. Led by conductor Harry Bicket, the English Concert will also be joined onstage with some of the most renowned singers in the opera world as well as the internationally recognized Clarion Choir. Omaha Community Playhouse will present Disaster! March 13 through April 4, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. A 1970s cruise turns from boogie fever into chaos with tornadoes, earthquakes and infernos, set to favorite disco hits such as “Hot Stuff,” “I Will Survive” and “Hooked on a Feeling.” This hilarious, over-the-top musical is wildly entertaining, leaving audiences buoyant and singing along! Omaha Performing Arts will feature John Mulaney’s Mister Whatever comedy performance on March 19 and March 20 at the Orpheum Theater at 7:30 p.m. Mulaney is a four-time Emmy Award-winning writer, comedian and actor, currently on the first leg of his latest standup tour, JOHN MULANEY: MISTER WHATEVER, performing across North America. This set covers new aspects of the comedian’s life, such as marriage and children. Résonance has announced a collaboration with the Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church to present Durufle Requiem on March 19, at 7:30 p.m. at 7020 Cass Street. This concert of vocal ensemble will additionally serve as a showcase of the sanctuary’s newly refurbished Quimby pipe organ, which took several years to restore the 3,599 pipes by the renowned Bedient Pipe Organ Company of Lincoln. Mark Kurtz, director of music ministries, as well as award-winning composer and organist, will test the limits of the organ in this performance. Dr. A. Barron Breland, Omaha’s premier chorusmaster, will conduct alongside Kurtz, leading the Résonance choir. Tickets start at $25, and students get in for free.
The February 19th Arts & Culture Report
Steelhouse Omaha will feature The Black Jacket Symphony Sunday, February 22nd from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Black Jacket Symphony will recreate the rock-and-roll artist Pink Floyd’s iconic album The Dark Side of the Moon live in its entirety, note for note. In addition, they will perform a full set of Pink Floyd’s greatest hits. The Black Jacket Symphony has performed more than 40 classic rock albums in the past decade, bringing an incredible night of entertainment to audiences across the country. The Creative Impulse will host a Sharpie Art workshop at the Cuxlr House on February 25 at 6:30 p.m. at 3014 North 24th Street. This workshop pulls inspiration from street art, graphic design and bold typography to explore what you can do with one of the most versatile art tools. Participants will learn techniques focusing on color, contrast and expression all on mixed media paper and a curated set of markers. Film Streams presents Dundee Marquee, a monthly event series celebrating a century of iconic cinema starting in late March. Film Streams invites audiences to experience 10 iconic films – such as Life of Pi, Casablanca, The Wiz, Cinema Paradiso, Everything Everywhere All At Once and more – that define the cinematic experience. Dundee Marquee is a continuation of 2025’s Dundee Hundee, a centennial series that celebrated Dundee Theater’s 100th birthday, becoming Omaha’s longest surviving neighborhood cinema. Individual tickets and series packages for Film Stream Members for Dundee Marquee will go on sale Thursday, February 26. General public tickets and packages will go on sale Thursday, March 5.
The Omaha Symphony announced 52 mainstage performances between September 2026 and June 2027 for their 2026/27 season. This season is stacked with incredible performances, including Masterworks, Symphony Joslyn, LIVE with the Omaha Symphony, Family Series, as well as the annual Choral Collaborative program in partnership with area high schools. The Omaha Symphony will also present a variety of community and education-focused programming, as well as concert recordings available to watch for free on its digital platform Omaha Symphony Anywhere as part of a continuous commitment to providing broad access to music lovers in Omaha and around the globe.
Omaha Performing Arts will feature the musical sensation & Juliet at Orpheum Theater from March 3 through March 8. Created by David West Read, who famously wrote for Schitt’s Creek, this hilarious musical flips the script of the iconic love story. It explores the “what if” scenario: what if Juliet didn’t end it after Romeo? She flies off with a fresh start and a second chance at life and love, filled with pop anthems and a fun story.
