The October 9th Arts & Culture Report

The Omaha Symphony kicks off its 2025/26 season at The Joslyn with principal French horn Brett Hodge and Strauss’s heroic and delightful Horn Concerto No. 2. First Kapellmeister of Komische Oper Berlin Erina Yashima conducts the Omaha Symphony for the first time in Schubert’s Great C Major, the composer’s thunderous, final symphony. Schubert’s Great C Major will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 12.

Celebrate Creativity, a partnership of the Omaha Symphony and the Joslyn Art Museum, invites 800 middle school students to explore a variety of artistic disciplines in workshops led by local artists and professionals. This year, students will participate in workshops, such as acting, stage combat, puppetry, singing, sketching and more. Each student had the option to choose which disciplines to explore during their experience. Celebrate Creativity ends each day with an interactive performance by the Omaha Symphony at The Joslyn at 1 p.m. to engage children with the notions of art and orchestral music. Details: Tuesday, October 14 through Thursday, November 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, Workshops begin at 9:30 a.m.

Cali Commons is hosting the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs 2025–2026 Traveling Show all October long. The Association of Nebraska Art Clubs unites and supports art clubs across Nebraska—the only organization of its kind in the country. Each year, the association hosts a statewide conference featuring a nationally recognized juror. The top 25 artworks selected travel to galleries across Nebraska. Featuring the top 25 pieces from Nebraska’s statewide competition, this is a must-see for art lovers.

KANEKO’s Soiree is this Friday, October 10th, and tickets are still available. It’s their annual celebration of us: artists and art lovers, dreamers and doers, longtime friends and new faces, gathering in joyful recognition that creativity flourishes in community.

This year brings something special: a preview performance by GRAMMY-nominated composer Andy Akiho and Sandbox Percussion, sharing work composed during their KANEKO residency. The following week, experience the world premiere in full – ambitious programming that only KANEKO makes possible.

Omaha Performing Arts has added four new events to the performance calendar:

BOLO comes to Steelhouse Omaha on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. Tickets start at $25 and go on sale Thursday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m. through steelhouseomaha.com. This event is 18+.

Fortune Feimster brings the Takin’ Care of Biscuits Tour to the Holland Center on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $41 and go on sale Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. through ticketomaha.com.

The Price is Right Live! comes to the Orpheum Theater on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $50.25 and go on sale Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 a.m. through ticketomaha.com.

Nebraska State Thespians Festival comes to the Holland Center on Thursday, Jan. 8 through Saturday, Jan. 10. Multiple performances are available and tickets start at $24 and are on sale now through ticketomaha.com.

KANEKO has announced the KANEKO Soirée, an event that transcends the typical fundraiser. “This is where creativity collides with community, where bold artistic vision pushes boundaries and where visionaries like you drive meaningful change.” Expect lively music, visual art, silent auction, curated food and drink, and an evening shared in celebration of the impact of creativity in our community.

The Union for Contemporary Art is holding Glow Up at The Union on Friday, October 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. The event celebrates a new chapter for The Union. Food, refreshments, games, and of course, lots of music to keep you partying. Tickets are $10 or purchase an exclusive VIP pass for $50 for extra special perks and a goody bag.

Blackstone Farnam Fest is back for another year on October 11. The event will take place at Blackstone Alley, the revamped event space behind Scriptown Brewing, near 39th & Farnam Street. Farnam Fest will include live music, a vendor market, food trucks and an outdoor bar. Gates will open at 11am and music will begin at 12pm. Admission is free.

The Omaha Community Playhouse will present the Pulitzer Prize winning drama, Angels In America – Part Two: Perestroika, opening Friday, October 10 and running through November 9 in the Howard Drew Theatre. The powerful conclusion to Tony Kushner’s groundbreaking theatrical masterpiece, Perestroika follows the critically acclaimed Part One: Millennium Approaches presented by the Omaha Community Playhouse last season (2024/25). Perestroika continues the journey through the lives of a group of interconnected New Yorkers navigating politics, religion, sexuality, and the AIDS crisis during the 1980s.

D.L. Hughley comes to the Holland Center on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $66 and go on sale Friday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. through ticketomaha.com

Local Artists. Local Art., a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting local creative voices, invites the public to a vibrant evening of art, music and celebration at “LALA Arty Party: Gift Crow Celebration”, taking place Friday, September 26 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 8th Street Plaza at Heartland of America Park, next to the Skate Ribbon.

At the heart of the event is the debut of “Gift Crow”, a striking new sculpture by local artist Reneé A. Ledesma, followed by remarks from both Ledesma and Weston Thomsen, Co-Director at LALA. The evening also includes a performance by Mariachi Femenil Tecalitlan, an appearance by the River City Mixed Chorus, locally designed inflatable sculptures and a lively celebration of LALA artists and their work.

The Durham Museum has announced a new exhibition from one of their largest collections, “Woven with History: Timeless textiles from the Ak-Sar-Ben Collection,” which will run from October 11 to January 11. These pieces not only showcase decades of style and elegance, but also the story of how The Durham carefully preserves delicate artifacts for generations to come.

In partnership with The Aksarben Foundation and The Durham’s On Track Guild, The Durham Museum is releasing the first accessible and comprehensive book on the organization’s legacy. This richly illustrated coffee table book traces Ak-Sar-Ben’s impact through archival photographs, untold stories and rare artifacts. A must-have for history enthusiasts, business leaders and anyone inspired by Omaha’s growth.

The Admiral has announced a night of powerful regional Mexican music as Rosendo Robles y Su Gente VIP takes the stage on October 10 at 7:00 p.m. at 2234 South 13th Street. Presented by Cinco de Mayo Omaha, White Rhino Productions and several local partners, this is a concert you won’t want to miss. Rosendo Robles and his talented ensemble recently performed Canción del Mariachi during Terence Crawford’s walkout in Las Vegas—a performance seen by tens of thousands live and shared by millions more online.

Terence “Bud” Crawford Celebration comes to Steelhouse Omaha on Saturday, September 27 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $58 and are on sale now. This is a 21+ event.

Christmas in Taylorville comes to Steelhouse Omaha on Saturday, December 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $33.35 and are on sale now.
