Thousands of athletes, family members and spectators descended on Omaha last weekend for the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Omaha. Competitors tackled the 70.3-mile course, which included a 1.2-mile swim at Lake Cunningham, a 56-mile bike ride through Douglas County and a 13.1-mile run along the Missouri River that crossed the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge into Iowa and back.
The event marked Nebraska’s first-ever IRONMAN-branded race and showcased many of Omaha’s signature assets, from Lake Cunningham and the city’s trail system to the revitalized riverfront. Athletes from across the country experienced Omaha’s mix of urban amenities, scenic outdoor spaces and Midwest hospitality.
The race also delivered an economic boost that’s going to go the distance. Omaha has secured the event through 2028.
