Construction is approaching the finish line at the Charles E. Lakin Pier along the Missouri River bank in Council Bluffs. Though it’s not scheduled to open until June, nighttime lighting has already been installed. The pier starts on the Council Bluffs levee trail, stretches west over the River Service Road, and eventually extends beyond the river bank. It provides some of the best views of the Omaha skyline. In addition to serving as an observation deck, the pier also includes a garden area, children’s playground and several seating areas. The pier is located between Interstate 480 and Harrah’s Casino.
