Munroe-Meyer Institute Brings 550 Employees to New Home in Aksarben

The University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Munroe-Meyer Institute held a ribbon cutting this week for its $90 million new home at 69th & Pine Street in a former First Data Resources office building in the Aksarben area.

Founded in 1919, Munroe-Meyer Institute’s mission is “to be a world leader in transforming the lives of all individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs, their families and the community through outreach, engagement, premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care.”

Munroe-Meyer employs 550 employees and receives more than 80,000 patient visits per year. The number is expected to expand with the new building.

By moving to the four-story, 220,000 sq. ft. building, Munroe-Meyer has left its longtime home near Saddle Creek Road and Farnam Street on the main UNMC campus and has become part of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Scott Campus. The Institute’s new neighbors include the Peter Kiewit Institute, Mammel Hall and the Scott Technology Center.

The Institute’s former building is expected to be razed. The land is earmarked for UNMC’s $2.7 billion Project NExT, an all-hazards federal response facility and state-of-the-art hospital that would create 8,700 new jobs.
